Showing My True Colors: How I Found My Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

I am a personal believer in the idea that you should dress for yourself and that clothes are meant to compliment you. I believe that clothing isn’t something that should require you to match or change yourself to keep up with certain trends. Recently, my friends and I have been diving into this idea by trying to find our “seasons,” or the colors that compliment our hair, skin tone, and eye color. Upon talking about this, we decided to take multiple quizzes online, holding up fabrics to our faces to see which colors work and which do not. When we first started taking these quizzes, we thought it was silly and simply saw it as something to have fun with on a Sunday afternoon. However, overtime, it ultimately came to elevate our fashion game and given us a more lively look.

My season is a “bright spring”, meaning that I am warm toned and have high contrast between my eyes and hair. This was true as I have warm toned skin, dark brown eyes, and bright blonde hair. As for what colors I look good in, the quiz stated that I should reach for bright and clear colors such as bright blue, topaz, green, gold, bright pink, and peach. After reflecting on this, I recognized that my wardrobe matched this a fair amount, and that my favorite colors happen to be ones that supposedly compliment me. The following week, I decided to test out this color theory and see if there were colors I looked better in. I decided to wear a bright blue sweater that Monday. When I wore the blue sweater, I was complimented twice that day and my friends jokingly said, “You’re in your colors today!” Additionally, when seeing myself in the mirror while wearing the sweater, I felt like my face looked clearer and that my features stood out more. I did a similar test again the following day wearing a fuschia sweater, except I also added gold earrings with turquoise accents, to further add to the color pallet. The results were similar and I even got a compliment from a woman while giving a tour.

Dressing in my “season” was overall a fun experience and something that I plan to continue to implement in my style, especially as the summer approaches and I add some new pieces to my wardrobe. If you want to change up your daily outfits or your clothing collection, this is a great way to do it. So next time you are hanging out with your friends, trying to find out each other’s seasons!
