Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone: Fall Fashion Edition

A new season means a fresh wardrobe and new ways to style old pieces. I’ve been excited to step up my outfits this fall and get creative with what I wear on the daily. Here are some of the things I’ve been wearing recently to accentuate my personal style and love of fashion:

  • Corduroy pants. Corduroy pants will always be a seasonal staple and can go with any top, from turtlenecks to sweaters and in between. I have a pair of flare corduroys and they make a simple outfit so timeless and chic. As opposed to just wearing my usual denim jeans, I’ve been embracing corduroys. The fabric also keeps me warm as the weather starts to get cooler.
  • Hats. Hats are a way to dress up any outfit, and when you wear them, they leave you feeling like a celebrity. I recently bought a wide-brim brown hat when I was in New York City with my friends over fall break, and it’s perfect for the fall and winter to wear on a Saturday or even on a skiing trip. I’ve always been hesitant to wear hats out in public, but I’m working on strutting them confidently.
  • Trench coats. My favorite way to style a simple outfit is to throw on a classic trench coat or tie-belt coat (my favorite is from H&M). A good trench coat is so minimalist and gives your outfit such a level of sophistication and depth. Again, a piece that I’ve been reluctant to start wearing, especially at school, but one that makes me feel put together (and way more stylish than I actually am!)
  • Ballet flats. While I love the classic black boots and white sneakers, I’ve been wanting to try something different. Ballet flats are chic and comfortable, and provide an elegant addition to your outfit.
  • Midi skirts. When I was home for fall break, I bought a white boucle midi skirt expecting to wear it for Thanksgiving or Christmas. I got back to school and tried it on for my roommate, excited to wear this new, atypical piece of clothing. I decided to go for it and just wear it to class, because no one’s going to think I’m “extra” for wearing it except for me. Putting it on the next morning felt risky, but lo and behold, everyone was hyping me up and complimenting it the next day. I wore a basic navy long-sleeved t-shirt with it, so it was super comfortable and the perfect fall outfit.
