Thanksgiving is almost here and what a better and unique way to celebrate the holiday than to meet someone new from miles and miles away. On November the 18th, two Her Campus members sat down for a Zoom video call and met each other. Claire Reiser, a Her Campus at Holy Cross writer and Claudia Colón Rosa one of Her Campus at UPR chapter leaders. And the outcome? Totally amazing! They got to learn about another chapter, another town, and another lifestyle other than their own. But one thing was for sure and it stuck to them: Her Campus members are awesome regardless of where they come from. So, here’s a bit of our experience and what we learned from meeting another lovely Her Campus gal.
Meet Claudia Colón Rosa
Claudia Colón Rosa is from Caguas, Puerto Rico, an island that is known for its incredible beaches and overall natural aesthetic. Locals, as well as visitors, can enjoy an array of activities from road tripping to hiking. Claudia is currently a graduate student at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus where she also received her undergraduate education in English Lit. Claudia is passionate about many different academic fields, but has committed to studying English and Biology. She also hopes to go to medical school and to one day become a doctor. She is also a big lover of music, some of her favorite musical groups being Arctic Monkeys and Cage the Elephant. In her spare time, she enjoys playing video games such as The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. She also enjoys watching anime!
Our Her Campus Experience
Claudia and I knew about Her Campus in similar ways: through the means of friends. Both of us had a few friends who were HC writers and told us all about their respective chapters. Claudia is a senior member whereas I’m a Her Campus baby! Claudia became part of her girl gang in January 2018, four years ago! She’s been writer, editor, Secretary, and is now one of her chapter’s leaders. Claudia has enjoyed each of her roles, but this year she has been most excited to take on a position of leadership. She is always excited when new members join and she loves getting to know them and showing them the ropes.
Favorite Her Campus Memory
One of Claudia’s favorite Her Campus memories was when she and her chapter members got together for her chapter’s birthday, and celebrated by putting together a birthday cake and a fun scavenger hunt. All throughout the campus, the members hid and searched for candy and other gifts. In order to find these surprises, the girls had to watch pre-filmed videos that Claudia and a few other Executive Board members put together. I loved this idea and wrote it down as something my chapter could do here on our campus at Holy Cross!
what i learned from her
Claudia is a four year member of Her Campus and has performed a variety of roles from writer to co-president. Since I’m just beginning with Her Campus, I was all ears to what she had to share about her campus. It made me excited to take on roles with more responsibility within my chapter of Her Campus at Holy Cross. After hearing Claudia talk about being an editor, I could definitely see myself doing something similar in the future. We are both English majors and love to write so it makes sense that we might follow a similar path within Her Campus!
