Although my grandmother used to be a Yoga instructor, I haven’t taken a Yoga class since in probably ten years. Over Easter break, my mom invited me to tag along with her to a hot yoga class at TwoPointOm, an awesome Yoga studio in Glen Cove, NY. I used to be a purebarre fanatic in high school, but now love running and HIIT workouts. Though the endorphins are great, I’ve definitely lost some of my flexibility/mobility with high-intensity workouts. I thought that this hot yoga class would be a breeze, but it turned out to be challenging for me in many ways.
Immediately, I realized that my flexibility could use some work. Though it was uncomfortable, the warmth of the room definitely helped me ease into certain positions (even though I couldn’t remember their correct names), and got me sweating. The class also incorporated some strength/pilates kinds of moves which definitely proved to be a great and challenging workout. I also loved the mindfulness of Yoga. The class allowed for silent thought/meditation which was super relaxing.
This 50-minute class went by super quickly, the moves flowing seamlessly into one another and ending with Savasana. There are many mental and physical benefits to hot yoga, but some of the most impressive ones I experienced were:
- Increase in Strength/Flexibility
- Relaxation
- Endorphin Boost/Increased Solitude
- Sweat!!!
Overall, I’d definitely frequent Hot Yoga again!! I know that there are a few studios near Worcester, and even Yoga classes offered at the Jo. This was an especially fun activity to do as mother-daughter bonding as well, so keep it in mind going into the summer!
