Spring Semester for me always feels more exhausting, and I find myself often hoping for the summer to come. As a rising sophomore I regret feeling this way, because college is going by so fast and I want to enjoy the present. It may be the combination of exhaustion from class, the excitement of a new school year being gone, and I often hear everything feels so repetitive during this time. I have really been working on trying to find things that I look forward to doing that make the spring semester more enjoyable. Here are some ideas of things you can try to break the cycle of college life.
1) Going out to Dinner in Worcester
Worcester is known to be the second largest city in all of New England. With that being said, there is so much food here that you can explore. My friends and I have found joy in the simple act of dressing up and going out to dinner. It can be an alternative to going out on the weekend, taking a step away from campus or even just taking some time to spend some quality time with your friends. Some of my favorite restaurants that I have had recently are: Baba Sushi, Mezcal Cantina, Mexicali, Via Italian Table and Volturno.
2) Going to a Group Fitness Class at the Jo
I have recently fallen in love with going to spin class, you can ask my best friend. The Jo offers pilates, spin, yoga, and total body strength classes. It is super simple to sign up, all you do is go on myHC and register. These classes are super fun and are oftentimes taught by fellow HC students. Attending these are a great way to meet new people, find new ways to exercise, and take a break from school work. They are a great resource available to all students.
3) Pick up a New Hobby
It is never too late to pick up a new hobby, or take some time to work on something you are interested in. Whether that is drawing, running, reading, or learning to skateboard, there are endless possibilities of what you can do. As college students we often are just caught up with keeping up with extracurricular activities and schoolwork. I recently have been trying to learn how to crochet, although it has only been a few days. It is something different I can incorporate when I need a break. It is something that I look forward to doing!
Learning to find joy in the present and find things that you look forward to can be a great way to make your spring semester more enjoyable! There is so much to learn and explore, and even as college students it is important to do things that make us happy!
