Why Everyone on the Hill is Obsessed with Blake Lively (and why you should be too)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.
  1. She takes us back to the Gossip Girl daysI may have shed a tear or two when the last episode of Gossip Girl aired. However,  Serena, Blair, Chuck, and Nate live on in my heart when I see Blake and am taken back to the days of complicated love triangles, family drama, and those cuter-than-average Constance school uniforms. Though it’s bittersweet, every time I see Blake strutting down the red carpet or casually shopping I feel at peace that Serena van der Woodsen is still killing it.
  2. She rocks braids like no one elseBraids can be tricky- I have made many solid attempts to wear them and ended up looking like I either just rolled out of bed or am trying way too hard. Yet when Blake sports them, she makes it look like the most effortless, elegant thing I’ve ever seen. From trying things like a high fishtail or a braid bun to having just the right amount of messiness and on point placement, she always manages to look appropriate for every event. And who ever thought of combining four different kinds of braids into one (throwback to the L.A. Green Lantern Premiere)?!
  3. She’s her own stylistCan we all take a second to appreciate how amazing Blake looks at every single event? On numerous occasions I have seen her outfits on the red carpet in Us Weekly or People and wondered who the heck chose that flawless piece of fabric. So, it was to my great awe and amazement that I learned Blake actually picks out her own clothes. “I don’t have a stylist, not because I think I can do it better than any of these people, but because I just love it so much that it would be like handing over something,” Blake told People StyleWatch in September. Yeah. Because I usually look that good too when I pick out my own clothes. I would be more than happy to hand over my ability to style myself to you, Blake!
  4. She has her own lifestyle blog to help us all be as fabulous as herWhen Blake Lively launched “Preserve,” a website that offers a selection of essays, stories, and videos that focus on subjects like your home and style, I was quite eager to explore it. I don’t know about anyone else, but I sure would like to live like Blake Lively, and I plan on taking full advantage of these tips. And honestly, how generous of her to share these thoughtful ideas with the rest of us commoners (at least, that’s what I feel like when I read about her exotic face masks and eloquent yet modest Editor’s Letters).
  5. Who looks that good pregnant? It didn’t take much for me to envy Blake, but the second she landed Ryan Reynolds as a husband I thought she couldn’t possibly go uphill from there. Honestly, I thought maybe being pregnant would knock her down a notch or two, and I could rest easy knowing not all of us can be perfect all the time. Wishful thinking. For me and everyone else so jealous of that perfect body that they hoped her pregnancy news would make her look a little more, well, human, that is unfortunately not the case. Not only does she appear to look exactly the same everywhere, with the exception of her baby bump, but she also looks more radiant than ever. You can guarantee the combination of her genes and Ryan’s will create a baby more beautiful at birth than I could ever hope to be in my lifetime.
