Rihanna had not released music in six years but instead shifted her focus to her Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty brands. These brands contributed to her being listed as a billionaire in Forbes magazine. Some of her fans thought that she had left music entirely because of the success of her entrepreneurial endeavors and her new role as a mother. But recently, Rihanna surprised us all.
Rihanna made her return to music on Friday, October 28 with the release of “Lift Me Up.” This is the first Rihanna song that has been released since her album “Anti” in 2016, and the first appearance that she has made on a song since 2020. It is an original song that will be featured in the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack. The song is co-written by Tems who is a popular artist in today’s industry. Rihanna expressed that she wanted the song to be one that is warm and reminds her of the people that she lost in life. “Lift Me Up” is in turn a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” examines how the fictional nation will move forward after the death of King T’Challa, Boseman’s character. Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye and the Dora Milaje must fight to defend their East African nation from world powers after his death. The movie was released on November 11, and the rest of the soundtrack was released on November 4.
