It’s a Very Humboldt Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Humboldt chapter.
Whether you’re flying solo or you’re madly in love, you’re going to need something to do this Valentine’s Day, and HC Humboldt is here to help!

1) The Perfect Date
Take your special guy or girl out for a great date! Favorite spots in Arcata include Mazzotti’s, Luke’s Joint, and Tomo. Arcata Theater Lounge is having a reggae show or you can check the listings at the Minor. Stop by The Scoop or Bon Boniere after for a sweet treat!

2) Something Sweet for Your Sweet!

Love chemicals called phenylethylamine are controlled by a substance that is found in chocolate and strawberries. So what better treat than chocolate covered strawberries for the day of love? Share these with your special someone or with your adored friends. Carefully melt a cup of milk chocolate chips in the microwave 30 seconds at a time, stirring between each cycle. Make sure not to burn the chocolate! Dip clean, dry strawberries in the melted chocolate. Cover a baking sheet with wax paper and set the berries on it to cool in the refrigerator. Give the chocolatey treats about an hour to harden.

3) Singles Awareness Day
Men? Who needs ‘em?! Anti-Valentine’s Day parties are a popular V-Day tradition. Get together with some of your closest girls and make cupcakes, watch chick flicks and learn the choreography to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” for a night of fun that’s sure to beat any dinner and a movie with a sleaze-ball guy.

4) A Valentine’s Adventure

Humboldt County is a prime location for outdoor adventures. The forecast for the area on the 14th calls for sunshine, so get outside! Take a bike ride out to the Arcata Bottoms and ogle the adorable cows and sheep. Trek out to Wedding Rock at Patrick’s Point with your honey to watch a romantic sunset. Get out your hiking boots and clamber up Strawberry Rock with your pals for a Valentine’s Day adventure you won’t soon forget.

5) Pamper Yourself
Take some time to love yourself this Valentine’s Day. Try a hydrating mask on your hair or give yourself a pedicure. Wrap up in a fuzzy bathrobe and devote the night to making yourself beautiful!

She has also worked as a writer, photographer, and designer for the campus magazine, Osprey. Zoe is ecstatic to be starting HSU's Her Campus branch. With hopes to one day work at a major women's magazine, Her Campus is a step in the right direction. Aside from being an aspiring journalist, Zoe enjoys performing (she's danced for five years, played the cello for 10, and done musical theatre for 12!), bike riding, and painting.
