While most of us complain about winter, we all know it can be full of so many beautiful things. Seriously, who doesn’t like snow-covered hills, hot chocolate and oversized sweaters? But while all of those things are pretty great, there is one thing very few of us can avoid…the fact that our poor faces get zero sunlight. This basically translates to most of us blending in with the snow around campus…no thank you. And while windburn from class to class can give you a bit of a flush, let’s be real and fix this problem once and for all. We may not be able to bask in the sunshine in these sub zero days but have no fear! There are a few makeup essentials to keep you looking glowing and healthy even in the dead of winter.
1. Blush – Did you wake up for class and only have a few minutes to get ready?! Blush is critical in this situation. Everyone’s skin tone naturally fades in the winter and blush adds a healthy look. Make sure to apply it just below the cheek-bone and evenly. Try a darker blush rather than too pinky, keep to winter shades.
2. Cover-Up Powder – I’m more than a little obsessed with Benefit’s line. This being said, whatever line you like, try a powder that is slightly darker than your face skin tone but still blends in with your neck. Apply lightly all over.
3. Bronzer – CONTINUE WITH CAUTION. There is nothing more upsetting than seeing an overly bronzed face in the winter. But it can be great to use lightly under the cheekbones before the blush is applied. Also apply to the nose and chin. You’ll have a cheeky glow and look refreshed, even in the middle of this ongoing snow globe.
4. Tinted lip balm – A nice medium shade of lip balm can really complete your look. The tinted portion will help bring color to the bottom of your face while the balm portion will keep your lips luscious and lovable.
5. Tanning – Feel like you need a little extra enhancement? Spend some time in a tanning booth! Zoom Tan has an unlimited tanning offer for only $10 a month. Perfer to go a little more au naturale, rather than baking in a bed? Exquisite Skin Care and Spa, (right across the street from Mark’s pizza), does beautiful spray tans for only $25! Fear not, you will not be orange after walking out of this spa, so be sure to book an appointment before the next formal on campus.
6. Setting Spray – Last but definitely not least, do not forget this! Being winter there isn’t the worry of makeup running from sweat but the moisture in the air as well as random snow flurries can do a number on your makeup, or if you just have a long day of classes.
With these few essentials you can count yourself set for whatever this winter brings for however long… so bring it on! And you can just sit and watch knowing you’ve really beaten the winter blues.
