Most teenagers transforming into young adults, strive for a new beginning: the time where you move far away from home to go above and beyond your comfort zone, while leaving everyone and everything behind. Even though most are excited to embark on this new journey, it is still a tremendous transition that leads most college students at a crossroad. Below are seven helpful tips as told by the popular television show, New Girl.
1.) THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASSES:
Entering the new school year can be tough, especially getting used to all of your classes. Most have an emotional breakdown, or ten, wondering how they can possibly manage their time, but try not to stress! It is a big learning process and the more you get into it, the easier it will get.
2.) BE YOURSELF:
Never be afraid of hiding who you truly are. College is where you find some of your closest friends who will never judge you. Not only that, college is a completely different world than high school. It is the time where people come out of their shell and choose to express themselves. We are all unique in our own way, and people will absolutely love you no matter what.
3.) GETTING USED TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS (AKA BOYS):
College is a completely new world, especially when it comes to the species that is often known as “boys.” Remain focused in class, because grades and actually graduating college is by far more important (most of the time!). You’ll most likely run into the same guy, or even more, at a party. Just remember to be safe and to play it cool in front of them.
4.) BEING ALONE:
Being alone as a college student is one of life’s greatest pleasures. You get to blast your own music, finish homework without any distractions, watch the Netflix movie you’ve been dying to watch, etc. The list goes on-and-on and there may be nights where you lock yourself in your little boxed dorm room and throw yourself a one-person party (perfectly normal).
5.) THE WEEKENDS:
After endless hours of homework and severe sleep deprivation, nothing is better than knowing it’s finally Friday and you get to sleep-in without having to wake up for an 8 a.m. Weekends are a college student’s most cherished time, free from work and early mornings.
6.) HOMESICKNESS:
Homesickness is inevitable. Whether you could not wait to get out of your childhood home, to being the definition of a homebody, we will all experience some form of homesickness. With this type of sickness, we will experience a lot of pain and loneliness. Try to remember that parents and loved ones are just a call, text, or FaceTime away!
7.) NEW FACES:
Believe it or not, the people that attend your college or university are some of the nicest people on the planet. Shockingly enough, girls walk by you and smile while having some quality bathroom conversations. Nothing is more reassuring than knowing these girls have your back, whether they are strangers or your closest friends. Even though most of these faces are unrecognizable, don’t be afraid to introduce yourself — you’ll be surprised on how great people can be.
