Ah junior year…the year that we finally gain freedom from the residence halls. The days (and nights) of patrolling RAs, Subway runs at 1:00 in the morning, and being confined to a closet of a room with your favorite (or maybe not so favorite) person are behind us. With that come some harsh realizations for us third-years. Apartment expectations soon turn to mush, the 21-year-old bliss quickly tarnishes (along with our bank accounts), and the work and pressure load seems more than we could have ever imagined. With all of the senior hype and post-graduation plans, I decided to gather some insight from my fellow juniors and spotlight what some of us are thinking while going through this everyday Illinois State life.
It goes a little something like this:
“Wait, I remember being a junior in high school like yesterday?”
“YAAAS! Finally the big 2-1. Pub Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, and Downtown Bloomington have a whole new meaning.”
“Um…where did all of my money go?”
“I just won’t look at my bank account and pretend its fine.”
“Peace out dining center food, you won’t be missed.”
“I’m going to be all Rachel Ray up in my apartment kitchen.”
“Oh. Looks like it’s another Lean Cuisine for dinner.
“Dang. I wish I had a meal plan.”
“Flex money…Baby come back.”
“Resume? Is that supposed to be French?”
“What have I done these past three years that is notable?”
“I ran a mile the other day…does that count?”
“Internships. Internships. Internships.”
“Make yourself standout? I mean, my mom thinks I’m special.”
“Looks like I need to join five more clubs.”
“I’m supposed to have my life together in a year…”
“Rent money, groceries AND a social life? Must need to be a wizard.”
“I didn’t sign up for this.”
“Adding on another year seems justifiable.”
Even with all the complications that may come along with being one year older, we will never forget all of the roomates, kitchen disasters, and unforgetable (maybe some forgetable) nights that got us here.
Senior year, here we come!
