5 Small Habits that are Good for your Physical & Mental Health

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

It’s amazing how the smallest action can make such a big impact on your day. Here is a list of habits I have picked up that have a positive influence on my whole day.

Vitamins

Everyday when I wake up I take a multi-vitamin. This makes me feel like I’m feeding my body something that it needs which makes me happy. It’s comforting to know I am getting the vitamins I need.

Move your Body

It doesn’t matter how you move, just do it. You can walk, dance, do yoga, workout, or do anything else that gets you off your bum. Sitting for class or homework can make you stiff. You might even feel lazy from sitting down all day even though you’ve been working. If I do something to be a little active it makes my day feel so much more productive.

Get Outside

Being stuck inside all day is not good for anyone. Spring is upon us, which means we can go outside without being bundled up! I like doing my homework outside when it’s warm enough. You can sit outside, walk your dog, or do literally anything for at least a few minutes outside. It’s amazing what some fresh air can do for you.

Drink Water

I have a 40 oz water bottle that I drink from, and when I refill it more than once I feel so accomplished. Find a huge water bottle and try to drink at least one full bottle. Being hydrated will give you more energy, too!

Morning/Night Yoga & Meditation

I find that waking up and getting a short yoga stretch in does wonders for the rest of your day. If you don’t think you can fit it in the morning, I also really enjoy doing wind down yoga before bed. Clearing your head and stretching your body out not only feels good physically, but also mentally. It’s like refreshing your mind and body.
