So let’s face it, in college you are BOUND to get a hangover… or two… per weekend. It’s inevitable that we are all going to drink too much and party too hard at least once in a while. Since none of us are planning on changing our drinking ways until a while after we graduate, we should all know a few secrets to getting over this miserable post-party syndrome a little faster.
Here are a few of the best ways to start feeling better, faster:
1. Stay away from caffeine—Even though you feel exhausted and like the night before kicked your butt, caffeine can actually intensify the pain you feel from a hangover.
2. Drink sports drinks—Sports drinks like Gatorade or Powerade are not only good during a workout, but can also lessen your hangover pain.
3. Drink plenty of water and fruit juices—fruit juices like orange juice are rich in Vitamin C, a vitamin that your body craves during your hangover.
4. Drink MORE alcohol—I know that for most people, the morning after drinking too much even the smell of any alcohol is enough to make you want to “vom”, but it has been known that drinking alcohol relieves the pain of a hangover.
5. Eat a hearty, carb-filled breakfast—Eating anything might be hard the next morning, but if you manage to push through, don’t go for the greasy sausage and bacon, but make some eggs or other mineral-rich food. If you are suffering from a hangover, your body needs minerals that such foods as eggs, pickles or canned fish can provide.
6. Take a shower—Drag your butt out of bed and take a shower. Alternate between hot and cold water to wake you up and make you feel refreshed.
7. Drink some ginger ale—Just like with the stomach flu, ginger ale calms the stomach and will most likely prevent any further vomiting.
8. Sleep! —The best cure for any hangover is to sleep it off, so if you have the luxury of sleeping in the next morning, do it!
Don’t be afraid to go out and have a good time, especially since you have a couple new hangover remedies to try!
