Friendsgiving is a glorious time; a day to exchange thanks with friends who are practically family. This is a tradition I think every friend group should participate in because besides the obvious reason of it being a super fun way to spend time with your friends, it’s also an excuse to have a Thanksgiving dinner twice. Â
Â
To have a memorable friendsgiving, it all starts with the people you will be sharing the food with. The major difference between friendsgiving and Thanksgiving is that we can choose our friends, not our family. So choose carefully who will have a seat at the table, I would suggest keeping the invite list to a minimum. Make sure to have your brothers and sisters with you not the distant cousin you see only on holidays.Â
Â
Organization is key when planning anything with a big group so make sure to distribute the responsibilities evenly. It’s easiest for the host to make the turkey only because traveling with a heavy turkey is risky and uncomfortable. The rest can be in charge of the sides and desserts completing the perfect Thanksgiving menu.Â
Â
This event takes place only once a year, so why not go all out? Have the host send out written invitations, make name cards for each guest, and create the perfect fall playlist to provide the best ambiance for dinner. Since this day is all about giving thanks, each friend should share a few words about each friendship that will make everyone feel appreciated. This doesn’t necessarily mean everyone has to give a full on speech, but trust me if you are that friend has a grandiose speech it won’t be forgotten. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I am that friend who gives a speech that leaves people’s jaws on the floor. I bring the entertainment with a side a sweet potatoes.
Â
Once you’ve stuffed yourself as much as the turkey, there should be some leisurely activities to do afterward while your food is settling. Trivia and board games which might sound lame to most, are actually pretty fun and can get real competitive real quick. If that’s not your friends’ speed, you can always opt for an episode of any of the iconic Thanksgiving themed Gossip Girl episodes that will definitely get you in spirit.Â
Â
At the end of the day, as long as you’re surrounded by people who love and care about you while eating delicious food, everything else is inconsequential. I have so many fond memories from celebrating friendsgiving years prior, each year I get more and more excited about it. During this time of year, don’t waste a single thought on whether or not you should get seconds because the answer will always be yes, most definitely.
