Having an internship in college is something that most students and prospective employers considers crucial. While it is not required, most employers look for internship experience in prospective employees. Internships give you real-life work experience that simply attending college cannot, and it leaves students with a plethora of knowledge, including how to deal with experiences common to those in the workforce.
For the last year I have been juggling two internships, as well as continuing to take classes. Learning the ins-and-outs of working in the office, answering to many different people, balancing working on several tasks at once, and maybe the most important thing, time management, are things I couldn’t totally grasp just in the classroom. Not only do I feel more confident about what I want to pursue as a career, but I have also learned what I don’t want to get into.
I got into contact with my internship supervisor at the ISU Career Fair last spring. I went on a whim, definitely hoping, but not expecting anything to come of it. Thankfully, I met someone from the department I now intern for and haven’t looked back since.
