While I’m optimistic, the current state of the world will improve traveling still seems far off into the future. With that said, here are some movies that are sure to increase your serotonin levels and help you live vicariously through the characters for anyone consumed by wanderlust.
- Mamma Mia (2008)
-
This movie lifts my spirits instantly and the soundtrack alone can turn my entire mood around. The entire film encapsulates happiness and is purely a feel-good movie. Taking place in Greece, this movie stars icons such as Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep following Sophia as she tries to find her real dad. This is truly one of the best musicals out there and I can’t wait for the day I can recreate scenes with my best friends on the various beaches of Skopelos.
- 50 First Dates (2004)
-
Starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, this movie follows Henry who tries to make Lucy who has short-term memory loss fall in love with him. In addition to the funny and romantic events that ensue, this all takes place in Hawaii. This is one of my favorite romantic comedies and it being set in Hawaii just makes it even better.
- The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005)
-
The plot is very simple; four teenage girls travel throughout the summer and all stay in touch through a shared pair of denim jeans. The most exciting places of travel that take place in this movie are Santorini, Greece, and Mexico. I watched this movie for the first time over quarantine and it instantly became a go-to movie for me whenever I need to live out my travel dreams in the comfort and safety of my own home.
- Monte Carlo (2011)
-
I loved this movie ever since I watched it in theatres back in 2011. This movie follows three girls as they travel to Europe, then due to a case of mistaken identity, this results in a series of events that take them to Monte Carlo. There are so many beautiful filming locations in this film, one of my favorites being Paris, France. There is also an amazing cast with people such as Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and Katie Cassidy. This movie makes me wish I saved up money throughout high school to go on a trip like this after graduation.
Hopefully, we all will be able to travel soon enough, but until then there is plenty of media out there to fulfill our travel cravings until then. Good things come to those who wait.
