Unfortunate Trends From Your Past

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

As colliegettes in 2015, we can all agree that we used to wear and do some pretty questionable things. In fact, reminiscing through old photos might make you cringe. Here’s a walk through memory lane of some old trends that we hope never resurface:

1. Crimped hair

Because burning our hair to give it a zigzag pattern was so mermaid of us.

2. Sketchers

Why did they have to be so thick…?

3. Wearing belts around your waist

Because wearing a belt in the belt loops was for nerds.

4. Scrunched hair

Because making our hair crunchy and stringy gave us that attractive fresh-out-the-shower look. Typically paired with some side-swept straightened bangs.

5. Obsessing over someone’s Top Friends on Myspace

To make sure we didn’t get moved down at all, because that would be TRAGIC.

6. These purses

Enough said. I can’t.

7. Sticking out your tongue in every picture

Smiling was overrated. We were rebellious teens who loved to have fun.

8. Having zebra print everything

Zebra nails, zebra clothes, zebra shoes, zebra rugs…no matter what it was, if it was zebra you HAD to have it.

9. Crying at school dances/football games

It was tradition.

10. Pink braces

Because we were thirteen, flirty and thriving.

11. Gauchos

Casually wearing these babies to school was a thing for WAY too long.

12. Needing every shirt you wore to say Hollister or Aeropostale

Because you were a nerd if you shopped anywhere else.

13. AIM

You had to set aside two hours minimum each day to chat with anyone you didn’t see at school. I mean, they couldn’t forget how fun you were to talk to.

14. Having a huge side part

Basically, at one point in your life your hair was a giant comb over.

15. Stalking your crush

Because you hoped that he would see you laughing or doing a hair flip to notice how hot you really were.

Although certain trends tend to resurface after a while, we’re not so sure that any of the above will get any second chances (except for maybe the last one…).
