Conversation hearts, chocolate, and roses, oh my! Valentine’s Day can be the most loved holiday of the year… or if you are spending the day single, the most hated. Regardless of your relationship status, Valentine’s Day can be a time full of love for everyone, whether this means loving someone else or simply taking some extra time for yourself. There are plenty of ways to spend the day besides crying in bed over that failed relationship. So get up, put on your best outfit, and prepare to treat yourself on this special, upcoming holiday!
First, dress the part. Don’t be the Scrooge of Valentine’s Day. Celebrate by wearing red or pink, and accessorize with heart-themed jewelry. Personally, since I will be spending the holiday in my clinical classroom, I bought a red oversized cardigan just for the day, and my friend gifted me a cute pair of pink, heart earrings a few years back that I will break out again for the occasion. Just because you’re single, doesn’t mean you can’t have some styling fun!
Next, take yourself out for your favorite breakfast. Maybe you want to make the trip to Fort Jesse Cafe for some pancakes, and maybe this simply means swinging by the Dunkin’ drive-thru before your 8 am. Start the big day energized and happy!
When it comes time for a midday pick-me-up, do something special for yourself. Get your favorite coffee from CoffeeHound delivered, stop by a local flower shop to buy some roses, or head to the Garlic Press for a box of gourmet chocolates. You are special, and you deserve a little treat, especially on a day filled with love.
After wrapping up your day, have your favorite dinner. Several places offer couples’ steak and shrimp specials, and dinner for two means double the food. I enjoy cooking, and I treat it as an act of self-care, so I will likely be spending my evening in the kitchen trying out a new recipe I am excited about. For dessert, I want to get a box of cookies from Insomnia delivered because nothing says self-love like warm, gooey cookies.
To wind down the night, take some time to relax. Light a candle, take a bath, cozy up in bed while watching your favorite rom-com, and maybe indulge in a glass of wine (if you’re of legal age).Â
You don’t have to spend Valentine’s Day thinking about your sad, single status when you can do all of the things you love with just yourself.
