Where To Put Your Best Foot Forward

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

2017 brings every single one of us a new opportunity to better ourselves across our impending need for self-actualization. It doesn’t take a scientist to know that most people will drop their New Year’s resolution within the first couple of weeks or be completely done by February or March. This year doesn’t have to be like those that we’ve encountered in the past. This year is not going to be that year for you or myself. I’m talking about real commitment and hard work for what you want in this world for yourself. We’re all young, beautiful and have the world in front of us. Start thinking of what you want to focus in on. What are your goals? What are your aspirations in life?

Now let me be completely upfront with you: never have I taken myself serious enough to make considerable change in my life. Every year has brought forth hope to do great, but I have failed to do so every year on the one goal that I’ve been trying to excel in my entire life. We all have those goals and aspirations for ourselves. We all want to feel connected and to become better. Don’t think superficially. Think about what your heart desires and yearns for.

Not this new year. This year you will not do what you and I have done too many times before. I will conquer this goal not only to build strength, but to truly understand the perseverance that it takes to accomplish anything within life. Despite the struggles every person is faced, there is an ability to overcome. People do it everyday. The road and the journey is where you’re made. I am encouraging you all to do the same with me.

Let us all take ourselves serious, keep ourselves accountable and go for the things we want in life. Grasp your dreams by the cusp and never let them go. No matter the dream, have faith and let yourself fly through all the risks and countless failures that await from the obstacles to come.

However, all of this is relatively useless unless you are going to make real change. Real change involves thought, planning, dedication and true desire. That is the very purpose of what I am relaying. I am already thinking about my New Year’s resolution because I am no longer going to sit idle as my life continues. I am going to plan, stick with it and take those obstacles as they forge themselves to me.

We need to continuously evolve and take advantage of the opportunity that awaits for your own growth. I can’t tell you what you need to work on or do to help yourself. Only you can determine that in your own self reflection.

Most importantly, this is what I need to do. I’m talking a big talk, but for the first time I am going to let my actions speak for themselves. I am a firm believer in letting your actions speak louder than your words. Whether or not this plan of yours is private or vocalized, hold yourself to it. Growth is shown through your own ability to control your active steps taken to achieve such goals.

Make real change in your life in 2017. Do what you know deep down you need to be doing. This year has so many wonderful possibilities awaiting us. Start planning for your real change now. I know I am. To do real change is to plan for the real and active steps towards that change. After those baby steps, bigger strides will be made and soon you’ll be running in no time. That doesn’t mean you won’t fall or fail a time or two. But finish what you start and take yourself seriously enough to better who you want to become. You’re only given one life. It’s up to us to decide how we want to live it. We’re all capable of anything if we want it that much. Sometimes we just need a reminder. Here is your reminder.
