I always knew I wanted to join a sorority in college and for many reasons. Joining a sorority at Illinois State is definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made. Being in Greek Life is so rewarding, so special and so life changing.
I came to college only knowing a few friends from my home town and I was looking forward to meeting new people. Joining a sorority immediately extended my family. My sorority sisters are so amazing and I can call them all my best friends. I feel I can count on all of them for anything and our friendships will continue beyond graduation day. Through a sorority you meet so many unique people and have the opportunity to develop close bonds that you may not have had the chance to do so otherwise.
Volunteering and giving back are very important to me. Throughout my freshman year I participated in more philanthropy and charity events than ever before. There is an abundance of opportunities and activities to be taken advantage of on campus and Greek Life makes it easy to get involved. In high school I volunteered frequently and joining a sorority has helped me continue my mission to give back.
Another reason I was really looking forward to going Greek is the opportunity to live in a house with all your sisters. I live in my sorority house this year and even though it has only been a few weeks, I am having the time of my life. I am never bored, never alone, and have laughed more than I have in my entire life.
A cool thing about being in a sorority is that you’re not only sisters with the women in your own chapter, you have sisters all across the nation at many universities. This summer, I attended a national conference for my sorority at Miami-Ohio University. I had the chance to meet hundreds of my other sisters from across the U.S. and visit our national chapter home where our sorority was founded. It was an experience that will benefit me for years to come.
Greek life is perfect for me and I hope it will be perfect for all those who decide to rush, too. I cannot imagine my college career any other way and I am thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful family. So far my sorority experience has been absolutely amazing and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I hope everyone who decides to be a part of this Greek family has as much enjoyment as I have had.
If you want an opportunity to connect with others, to be inspired, philanthropy involvement, social activities, future opportunities and to develop life long friendships……. Go Greek!
