I wanted to take some time to write about why I enjoy writing, my history and personal writing goals, and why I chose to be a part of the Her Campus team at ISU.
One of the reasons why I love writing for Her Campus specifically is because I wanted a space to show others what I am passionate about and why I enjoy what I enjoy. Aside from wanting another extracurricular activity to put on my schedule, I loved the idea of writing about what I wanted when I wanted.
Being able to write freely has also taught me more about myself. I’ve realized that I genuinely enjoy researching different topics and writing about them. Recently, I wrote an article about Architectural Digest, and I ranked my top three favorite “Open Door” celebrity home tours. I love home décor and I was so excited that I got to write about something that I am truly passionate about. Writing has also taught me to be more aware of what I enjoy, and what I am passionate about. Freely writing sparks interest and it makes me think about a multitude of different aspects of my life creatively.
As an English Education major, it is probably a bit obvious that I enjoy reading and writing more than math and science. Let’s just say I would prefer writing a lengthy paper over taking a test any day. One of my goals is to make high schoolers love reading and writing. I want to encourage students to want to write, whether that means writing in a journal, starting their own personal blogs, getting involved with the school newspaper, or writing analytically.
As you journey through 2022, and as you go about your busy college days, I encourage you to write. Even if you only write for five minutes a day, or if you don’t know what to write about, I want to motivate you to write. Find a topic, get creative, and have fun.
