Now I wouldn’t call myself an expert decorator, but I have been watching a lot of HGTV to pass time in quarantine, so you could say I know a thing or two about accent walls and statement pieces.
In preparation for the upcoming school year (not that I’ve been counting down the days or anything) I’ve been planning the look of my future dorm room. Besides being a good excuse to do some online shopping, planning these décor ideas has been a nice distraction while stuck at home. It has made me feel excited (and hopeful) for the school year!
So, in dedication to Fixer Upper‘s very own Chip and Joanna Gaines, here are three style ideas I have recently discovered to help you spice up your dorm:
1. Accent Walls
Change up the bleak walls of your dorm room with peel and stick removable wallpaper. Since we are, unfortunately, denied the right to paint our dorm walls that adorable shade of blush pink we saw on Pinterest, these temporary wallpaper patterns will add that pop of color every room needs without leaving the walls a mess. With a variety of options offered, say goodbye to those outdated prison walls and hello to some Instagram-worthy eye candy!
Pro Tip: Draw focus to this very-much-so attention deserving wall by adding some greenery to the artsy display. Get creative and paint some of your own plant pots to help spice it up—it’s not only cheap to do but also a super craft!
2. Art Collage
Another way to tackle the blank walls of a dorm room is by hanging pieces of art. Embrace your inner fashionista with a collage of luxury brand logos and runway sketches, or tune into your adventurous side with travel images and jet-setter views. This trend caters to everyone’s style by allowing you to pick and choose art that reflects your individuality, passions, and manifestations. You can download tons of free digital prints online, so put your DIY skills to work and craft up your own lively combo!
3. Bold Prints
Another easy way to spice up your dorm room is by incorporating bold rugs, patterned pillows and bright throws. Keep your bedding simple and create new looks by frequently switching out different pillows whenever you feel like mixing it up! This is such an easy way to change up the whole vibe of your room without breaking the bank. Though it may seem intimidating, try and make your own pillow with any fabric pattern of your choice–I promise it isn’t as difficult as you think! if I could do it in 6th grade home-ec, you can too.
