5 times Taylor Swift Went Ridiculously out of Her Way for Fans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of Taylor Swift’s recent generosity: helping pay a fan’s student loan debt. If there’s one thing about Taylor Swift that even the haters can’t deny, it’s that this girl loves her fans! Even though she has gained more and more success throughout the years, her connection to her fans seems to have strengthened. Another one of her more recent acts? Secretly inviting fans to her house in L.A. to have a listening party for her new album,1989, complete with home-made cookies.

Below are the top five moments T-Swift made us feel more like friends than fans.

1. That time she went to her fan’s bridal shower.

One day while perusing fan mail, Taylor noticed that she received a wedding invitation from a well-known fan, Gena Gabrielle, who had been coming to her shows for years. While she couldn’t make it to the wedding, inside the invite was another invitation for a bridal shower. So, what else would Taylor do besides fly to Columbus, Ohio to surprise Gena at her bridal shower, with a basket of gifts and again, homemade cookies? And lucky for us, it’s all on video.

2. That time she gave a fan $90 to go to Chipotle for her birthday.

In July, as Taylor was doing an interview at Central Park in New York City, a fan in a row boat saw her and went over to her. Taylor and her security helped the girl out of the boat so she could get a picture. Once Taylor learned it was the girl’s birthday and that she and her friends were going to Chipotle, she went in her purse and took out 90 dollars for them to celebrate.

3. That time she gave a fan love advice on Instagram.

A fan sent Taylor a message about a guy she’s grown up with and has had a crush on for years, who has a girlfriend. “A guy who I have the biggest crush in the whole wide world on, and he’ll never like me back,” she said. Taylor replied to Hannah, in a heartfelt message, telling her that her love is selfless, “No matter what happens in this situation, I want you to remember that what you are doing is selfless and beautiful and kind. You are loving someone purely because you love them, not because you think you’ll ever have your affections reciprocated.”

4. … And then the time she stood up for a bullied fan on Instagram.

A fan sent Taylor a sad message about feeling hopeless. “Taylor, why are people at school so mean? Why do they always try to bring me down? I’m sitting here crying while I write this,” said young fan, Hannah. As soon as Taylor saw this, she looked up her fan, who covers her songs in YouTube videos. She made Hannah’s day by sending a long, thoughtful message back, “Reading this made me so sad because I love seeing you in your videos and photos being so happy and wide eyed, like the world isn’t as harsh and unfair as it actually is.”

5. That time she sung for adorable cancer patient, Jordan Nickerson.

Taylor has become known for visiting hospital patients. Back in August she visited Boston Children’s Hospital, breaking our hearts when she sang “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” for 6-year-old, Jordan Nickerson. She played Play-Doh with him, talked about super heroes and then performed for him singing, dancing (in heels) and playing guitar! Earlier last year in March, she also visited the New York Hospital Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, staying for five hours when she was only scheduled for one.
