Ever see a movie and think it was so good you wish it never ended? Well, some of your wishes have been answered. Here are six upcoming movie sequels set to hit the big screens that you probably didn’t even know about.
Â
Â
1. “Magic Mike XXL” (July 3, 2015): Yes ladies, let me start out by letting you know that Channing Tatum will reprise his role in the “Magic Mike” sequel. Based on Tatum’s cover interview with GQ, the film will center around the cast at a strippers’ convention. Of course, it is only rumored that Matthew McConaughey will return as Dallas, but there will be new additions to the cast as well, including comedian Gabriel Iglesias. While the first film may not have had the best plot, what female is going to complain about this sequel?Â
Â
Â
2. “The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist” (October 23, 2015): Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) return for this sequel that hasn’t released a plot to date. However, rumors claim that this story will take place in 1970’s England with one of the Warren’s lesser-known paranormal cases. After earning the title of scariest movie in years, let’s hope director James Wan can top himself in this highly anticipated sequel.
Â
Â
3. “Ted 2” (June 26, 2015): Seth MacFarlane is back as the loveable, vulgar Ted in this unnecessary, yet much wanted, sequel. Mark Wahlberg also returns as John Bennett while original lead female, Mila Kunis, may only appear as a cameo in the film, if at all. However, MacFarlane includes co-star from “A Million Ways to Die in the West” Amanda Seyfried in the cast, likely as a replacement for Kunis. While it’s slightly disappointing that Kunis won’t be a major part of the film, I am sure MacFarlane has the ability to produce and direct a film that matches, and probably exceeds, the humor from the first.Â
Â
Â
4. “The Woman in Black: Angel of Death” (2015): After the success of the first film starring Daniel Radcliff (better known by all mankind as Harry Potter), it isn’t much of a surprise that a sequel is in the works. Of course, Radcliff won’t be reprising his role (for obvious reasons if you’ve seen the first film), but a new cast will be picking up the story in a setting forty years later. As far as plot goes, children evacuated from London during World War II will find themselves at the same Eel Marsh House we’ve come to know and fear courtesy of the first film.Â
Â
Â
5. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” (2016): I know, it’s almost too good to be true right? Even better, our favorite Captain, Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), will be returning for yet another sequel to this amazing franchise. Geoffrey Rush (Captain Barbosa) is also a rumored part of the fifth cast, which should make Pirates’ fans pretty happy. Of course, the plot hasn’t yet been released, and filming won’t start until early 2015 most likely, but I’m sure I speak for most when I say my excitement is already hard to contain!
Â
Â
6. “Through the Looking Glass (“Alice in Wonderland 2”)” (May 27, 2016): No, not the animated Disney version. However, this is yet another Johnny Depp movie to appear in 2016, so can we just give thanks for that? In fact, can we be thankful that all main characters appear to be returning, including Depp (the Mad Hatter), Helena Bonham Carter (The Red Queen) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice)? The only real downside is a change of directors: Tim Burton seems to have disappeared and James Bobin has taken his place. Disappointing? Yes. Still worth seeing? Definitely.
Â
Of course, there are many more sequels in the works, but hopefully this list has been enough to peak your excitement and prepare you for what seems to be a fantastic next couple of years in cinema.
