Beauty Blog: The Best Face Wash for Your Skin Type

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, you name it.  They all have aisles and aisles of beauty products that seek to entice customers by their packaging and claims.  I’ve found that face wash in particular is one item that I rely strictly on drugstores for instead of pricey department store brands.  I think this category is especially one that most of us struggle to find the right one as they all claim to perform miracles. I spent much of my teen years trying to find this “miracle” wash, and although none of them are the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, some come pretty darn close.

It’s confusing figuring out whether or not you’re considered dry, combination, or oily and targeting exactly what your trying to fix.  Are you oily? Sensitive? Acne-prone? Or do you just want to clean your makeup off at the end of the day? I’ve found a stellar wash in each of these categories, all at an affordable price and available at your favorite drugstore.

For oily skin: Neutrogena Deep Clean, removes dirt and makeup without leaving your skin feeling neutral, neither dry nor filmy.

For sensitive skin: Free & Clear Liquid Cleanser, this wash is not harsh at all and it is soap-free and chemical-free. It’s effective yet gentle, as it’s also free of fragrance.

For acne-prone skin: Clearasil Ultra Daily Face Wash, this cleanser contains salicylic acid, an acne medication that helps eliminate blackheads and pimples and prevents them from reappearing.  It contains microbeads that exfoliates dead skin for a smooth finish.  It also removes dirt and stubborn makeup.

For everybody: Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser, this product has been my favorite for several years now.  It is perfect for all of the above: it cleans your skin completely of makeup and dirt and is even gentle enough to use to remove eye makeup.  It is not harsh or drying and it also cleans up acne at the same time.  I’m a very loyal customer to this face wash!

Look for my next post about face pads!

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
