Two weeks ago, the students from College Fashion Week (CFW) presented a series of fashion events and seminars on campus to promote different aspects of the fashion industry. From trunk shows to a student panel to a premier runway show, no a corner was cut in making sure students of every interest got a holistic understanding of the vast opportunities fashion has to offer and the many careers available in this fast-paced profession.
Â
Monday: College Fashion Week kicked off their big week at Canopy Club with Beats Antique. This event was a relaxing way to welcome students into the world of fashion as they enjoyed a fun night filled with great music and friends. CFW opened the concert with a short fashion show for guests to get a preview of the premier runway show later in the week.
Â
Tuesday: CFW hosted a Facebook-based contest called the “I-L-L-EST Student Style Competition.” The event incorporated the entire campus as CFW members teamed up with Impulse Magazine, an independent student-run magazine on campus, to walk the C-U streets in search of trendsetting students. Photos of these students were placed in a photo album on CFW’s Facebook page for students to vote via “liking” their favorite photo.
Â
Wednesday: From showcasing their own fashion line at New York Fashion Week to interning at Teen Vogue and everything in-between, six U of I students shared their personal experiences in the fashion industry and gave advice on how to succeed during a student panel conversation. These impressive students gave tips on how to get your foot in the door and deal with the many stresses of being an intern for major fashion companies and publications. Not to mention, FORD Models was there doing an open casting call for students interested in pursuing a career in professional modeling with the world’s most renowned agency.
Â
Thursday: As many of you know, New York City is famous for their annual Fashion’s Night Out event sponsored by Vogue and the CFDA. CFW created their own take on the infamous event with CFW Fashion Night Out at The Red Lion. Members of CFW elegantly arrived to the event in a stretch limo and enjoyed a glamorous night to celebrate the success of the week.
Â
Friday: Brining the fun to 309 Green Street, CFW presented a poolside thrifting bazaar at the swank campus apartment building. Featuring a runway show as well as items from Vintage by Bike and Ellison Sunglasses, this casual event allowed students to have the opportunity to purchase affordably chic clothing and accessories.
Â
Saturday: Finally, the premier runway show for CFW took place Saturday evening. Featuring student designers Gordana Rasic and Omar Villalobos of GOCA Designs, Polly Bland of Paulie Antiques, Brent Rawlinson of Vintage by Bike, local Champaign boutique Le Shoppe and Chicago designer Wanda Grace, the runway show was a hit and brought together both students and members of the C-U community.
