Every Collegiate’s Guide to the Perfect Night Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Getting ready for a night out can be a hassle. Whether you’re bar hopping with some friends on a Friday night or finally grabbing dinner with your chemistry crush, the perfect night out is only a few steps away.

One of the most essential steps to having a perfect night out is having perfect hair. Chambana is known for having its gusty winds that can make any normal day feel like you’re trapped inside of a tornado. The simple trick is to keep three things on you at all times: a brush, a few bobby pins and a hair tie. Ditch the mini hair spray. Not only are you helping fight pollution, but you’re preventing your hair from looking and feeling oily.

Dana Hilgers, freshman at UIUC, is just beginning to learn the flow of always being prepared when going out, but she has a few tips under her belt already. “I always keep a few bobby pins and two to three hair ties on me when I go out,” she said. “I keep them in my wallet so I never have to worry about it getting in the way unless I need them.”

What may be the best part of having the perfect night out, besides wearing jeans that allow you to breathe, is having your makeup done just right. When mascara is placed perfectly, blush highlights the beauty of your cheekbones and your lip-gloss is literally popping, there is no obstacle that can get in your way. Suddenly, the bright lip stain that adorned your lips is a thing of the past, wiped away with fun and laughter. The debate of the century suddenly becomes: lipstick or lip-gloss?

Hilgers sticks to a simple guideline by believing lip stick is the perfect solution if she wants a “pop of color,” but keeping a small tube of lip balm “prevents the messiness of lip gloss and keeps your lips smoother.”

Asha Woods, a sophomore at UIUC, has a different take on the lip debate. “I like lip gloss because it has a color in it and you don’t have to worry about having too much on or having to constantly blot your lips,” she said. “It’s just easier.”

While keeping your lips on-point may be a necessity, what truly matters is the breath behind it. Bad breath can make any situation awkward and embarrassing, but the constant sound of a loud chewer can irritate even the best of us. Not to mention the dry taste that follows a stick of gum that has lost its entire flavor. The go-to solution in this case is to stick to mints Not only do they provide fresh breath, but they also dissolve, giving you less things to focus on besides having fun.

“I am most definitely team mints,” commented Woods. “I don’t like the popping of gum, and it’s just not cute to do that in someone’s ear. Keep it classy with mints.”

The perfect night out is only a few steps away, and with a few simple tricks (don’t forget Band-Aids for those pesky heels), it can be fully reached. So go out, have some fun and keep it classy Collegiates!
