Rarely do I hear of Halloween costume ideas that make me literally “lol.” Most of the time, I get the same response about peoples’ costume ideas. Either they have given up on the tradition of Halloween entirely or they have gone as the same thing for the past five years. This year, instead of not dressing up at all or being the same thing you’ve been every other year, take inspiration from these fun and festive costume ideas.
As they say, “a classic never dies” and there’s no better epitome of class than Audrey Hepburn. Save some money and wear that little black dress that’s been sitting in your closet, add some pearls, a long cigarette holder and voila! You are set to go as Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Keep up with this year’s pop-culture by going as Psy, the South Korean singer, songwriter, and rap artist, who made his name with his signature dance moves and humorous videos and performances. Along with your moves, a bright sport coat, bow tie and sunglasses are must-haves for being a believable Psy.
I love costumes such as this, “Raining Cats and Dogs” option because instead of having to run out and buy everything needed for a believable character costume, you can use everyday items from around the house to create a play-on-words look. For another fun option, attach packets of the candy, “Smarties,” to your pants and go as a “smarty-pants.”
Dressing up as characters from recent popular movies is always a hit, as long as it is not being overdone. One character that would be recognizable, but probably less common, is Katniss Everdeem from The Hunger Games. Combine simple neutral pieces with an old-fashioned bow and arrow and your look is complete!
Who doesn’t love the sassy, 6-year-old beauty queen from TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo? In an old, blingin’ prom dress, stiffly curled ringlets and a tiara, it will be clear to everyone what celeb you are impersonating on Halloween night.
My final Halloween idea is also one of my favorites. All who are familiar with Miss Piggy from The Muppet’s know that there is nothing you can’t get away with while dressed as the sassy Miss Piggy. Dress in all pink, load on the jewelry and don’t forget the snout!
Need a costume idea for your boyfriend/date? We thought so. Buy a cheap collared shirt and remove everything but the collar, add a tie and you have created the perfect Magic Mike costume!
