Film: 10 Reasons you should see “Catching Fire”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Not sure if you should catch the record-setting movie “Catching Fire” in theaters? Read these ten reasons why it’s a must-see for all students!

1. Katniss

Alright ladies, be honest. Who doesn’t want to be best friends with Jennifer Lawrence? There’s nothing worse than hearing your favorite book-turned-movie has casted a terrible lead, so we can thank our lucky stars that Jennifer is as amazing as she is.

2. Record Setting Audiences

That’s right. Its release over the Thanksgiving holiday brought in over $290 million, and that’s after only being out for about two weeks! Take that, “Twilight!”

3. Peeta or Gale? What’s to Lose?

When a film grants you not one, but two good-looking, leading men, it’s hard to be disappointed. Between Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, I’d say us ladies have quite a few things to be thankful for.

4. Violence

Who doesn’t love a film with a little bit of violence? However, keeping it tasteful isn’t always easy, especially when watching films like “Saw.” Even with the potential for extreme violence, the film resists– keeping it classy.

5. Romance

No movie is complete without even a little bit of romance, and “The Hunger Games” has plenty of it. The film is tastefully able to intrigue audiences with romance, without the constant in-your-face make-out sessions or over the top confessions of love.

6. Suzanne Collins

Not only is she a major part of producing the films, but she is also the woman who started it all with her amazing trilogy of books. Without her, “The Hunger Games” wouldn’t even be possible, so all fans definitely have her to thank for a great trilogy.

7. Capitol Craziness

The Capitol has given fans something to visually enjoy during each film. Between Elizabeth Banks and Stanley Tucci, the costumes are always elaborate, entertaining and way out there.

8. Setting

The arena for the Hunger Games is possibly one of the most detailed, elaborate and well thought out settings since the wizarding world of “Harry Potter.” It’s the perfect combination of dangerous and thrilling. Basically, the word cornucopia will never mean what it used to.

9. Lionsgate

Their work with the “Saw” franchise as well as several other popular films, such as “Good Luck Chuck” and the more recent “Ender’s Game,” gave them a good reputation when coming in to work on the next of “The Hunger Games” films. And it was all for good reason, as the entertainment company once again did a phenomenal job.

10. We’re in Need of a New Obsession

Last, but certainly not least, us super-fans cling to “The Hunger Games” in a time of need. It feels like forever ago that the “Harry Potter” series ended, followed quickly by the “Twilight” trilogy. Without a new sci-fi obsession, we’d be lost, and so we can thank “The Hunger Games” trilogy for preventing withdrawals.
