Fans raved about the level of scariness in the 2010 release of “Insidious,” so its sequel was simply inevitable.
Immediately following the premiere of the first film, producer James Blum awaited final answers on if director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell would agree to return for a second film, which they did consent to in February of 2012.
Wan takes the audience back into the lives of the Lambert family immediately following the ending of the first film, and instantly, the story is resumed and is just as scary as it ended.
Of course, the cast remains the same, with returns including Patrick Wilson (Josh Lambert,) Rose Byrne (Renai Lambert,) Ty Simpkins (Dalton Lambert) and Barbara Hershey (Lorraine Lambert).
Whannell returns for the second film as both a screenwriter and as the character Specs, and the film wouldn’t be complete without a release date on one of the most notoriously scary days of the year, Friday the 13th.
With the age of technology growing as the involvement between television and social networking sites become more and more intertwined, it is no surprise that such a high grossing film as “Insidious” has opted to take part in this expansion for its second chapter.
The film has followed the lead of many TV shows by developing a Twitter account in which fans can post tweets with the hashtag #INSIDIOUS. However, it has also gone much farther in its quest to please viewers.
The eeriness of the film continues in the creation of its website, http://www.insidiousch2.com. The first image guests are introduced to is that of a rocking horse moving by itself, and then fog filled blackness leads them to three doors: The Further, The Lambert Household or the Interactive Reading.
In The Further room (the central red door,) fans can watch film clips and previews or skim the photo galleries and the cast list.
In The Lambert Household door (the blue door on the left side,) guests are invited to look through three different lenses around a room from the film to spot a hidden horror. In each of the lenses, chills run down the users spine as they scan the room, searching for what isn’t seen by the naked eye.
Finally, the Interactive Reading door (the green door on the right side,) brings you to yet another room used in the film with Carl (Steve Coulter), who offers to give you a reading. Guests are asked to enable their webcams and roll the dice, awaiting a response from the spirit world you don’t see coming.
The website never strays from the “Insidious” appearance, as the interactive site startles fans with loud noises, creeps them out with menacing whispers and puts the final nail in the coffin in playing its famed song “Tip Toe Through the Tulips” by Tiny Tim.
Although the film hasn’t been out for long, there are already rumors surrounding a third development. At the moment, these appear to only be rumors, but they are somewhat justified in that the film left the possibility open in ending the second chapter.
“Insidious: The Final Chapter?” In the final words of the film, as well as of the audience:
“Oh my God.”
