Music Blog: HC Illinois is getting Spotify!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Here at HerCampus Illinois we believe in lovin’, livin’ and of course jammin’.  Luckily for us, it seems that every day brings about new mediums to get free music. We’ve got www.youtube.com, www.pandora.com and now there is a brand new addition to Facebook that gives free music a whole new meaning: Spotify.

Once you download Spotify, you can make playlists of your favorite songs.  From there, you can make your own playlists or Spotify will create playlists for you based on the songs you like to listen to.  It makes it so easy to discover new music and listen to the music you already love!

The step-by-step process makes it so simple to start listening right away! You can build multiple playlists or just one and the best part is that there is no limit to the amount of music you can listen to.  If you get stuck at first trying to find the types of music you like, there are playlists from other users to help you get started, or to just enjoy for yourself.

The set-up resembles the look of iTunes, but gives you a lot more freedom to browse music because the songs are free. Plus, the songs you like can automatically be uploaded to your timeline to share with family and friends. The Facebook world has become a way to share everything from news, pictures and now music.

I highly recommend downloaded Spotify if you haven’t already.  There is a whole world of music waiting for you!

Here are some of our favorite playlists to get you started!
-‘90s Smash Hits Playlist
-Country Hits List
-Top of the Charts Playlist

Have fun with it and be on the look-out for the HerCampus Facebook page’s Spotify coming to you soon! HC Love.

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
