If you are a wellness girlie who wants to have a healthy and rejuvenating spring break, then this article is for you. For starters, let me be explicitly clear with my definition of wellness. Wellness is being healthy in all of the aspects of health (physical, emotional, social, spiritual, etc.). A wellness journey is the path you are taking to become the absolute best, healthiest and happiest self. With this being said, we are going to discuss the ultimate spring break for a girlie trying to become the best version of herself.

Movement

During spring break, get daily movement. Movement doesn’t have to be something you dread. It can be anything that gets you up and moving about. Furthermore, any movement or exercise you do should be something you look forward to doing. Exercise or movement (in general) shouldn’t be a punishment, but rather something we do because we appreciate our bodies. This being said, move in a way that makes you feel good and energized. Below are some ideas.

  • Pilates
  • Yoga + Stretching
  • Dancing
  • Lifting weights
  • Taking a walk outside
  • Jogging + running
  • Hiking
  • Biking and cycling
  • Swimming

Fueling Your Body

To begin, let me remind you that wellness is not a restriction. It’s not only eating foods and drinking drinks that are deemed “healthy.” Wellness is all about balance. It’s about fueling your body in a way that makes you feel good. It’s about honoring your cravings while still giving your body what it needs. With this being said, here are some tips for nourishing your mind and body this spring break.

  • Let yourself order the dish you actually want. You don’t always have to get the healthiest option.
  • Try to make your plate as colorful as possible.
  • Incorporate all of the major food groups, but don’t beat yourself up if you don’t. It’s okay!
  • Make sure to get an adequate amount of water each day.
  • Go and get dessert after dinner if that’s what you’re craving.
  • Be resilient to the comments about your body or the food you’re eating (if you get any). Your eating habits and appearance are nobody else’s business, so don’t change what you’re doing to cater to somebody else.

Self-Care

It wouldn’t be a spring break for wellness girls if we didn’t do some (or a lot) of self-care. Take some time for yourself and let yourself relax. Extend your daily self-care habits, and do an extra thing for you each day. If you aren’t sure what else to do, then here are some ideas. Note: most of these activities you can either do at home or go and get them done.

  • Paint your nails and toes.
  • Schedule a facial.
  • Microblade your face.
  • Wax your eyebrows.
  • Cut and/or color your hair.
  • Put on a face mask.
  • Whiten your teeth.

Hobbies + Activities

We need to take advantage of the time spent out of college and relinquish having a little bit of free time. Do what you want to do. You can stay in and have a “rot” day, or go out and about. It’s up to you! Here are some activities to add to your list!

  • Visit a botanical garden.
  • Go get coffee.
  • Relieve some stress with retail therapy.
  • Bake your favorite sweet treat.
  • Binge-watch a show.
  • Attend a painting class.
  • Go on a day trip somewhere

Illinois '27

Hi there! My name is Autumn Rose, and I'm from Utica, Illinois. I live minutes away from Starved Rock State Park. I attended LaSalle-Peru Township High School which consists of only about 1,200 students. Within my family, I'm the youngest in a close-knit household, and I have an older sister who I absolutely adore. As well, I have a golden retriever and a grey tabby cat. Currently, I'm a first-year neuroscience student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Both the physical and psychological aspects of the human brain fascinate me. In addition, I'm interested in nutrition and how this field can be applied to neuroscience. There is a field labeled nutritional neuroscience that studies how the consumption of food, minerals, and supplements impacts an individual's cognition, mood, and overall brain health. Outside of the classroom, my hobbies vary tremendously. Music wise, I listen to Bryce Vine and Bazzi, but I also love Etta Mae, Arethra Franklin, and Frank Sinatra. As I do my morning routine, I listen to health and wellness podcasts on Spotify. In between classes, I do yoga and Pilates. At night, I love to do some skincare, and then crawl into bed with one of my books. Typically, I partake in crocheting and baking in the colder months. As a side note, my favorite season is fall because of the cool weather and all of the pumpkin/apple candles, foods, coffees, etc.
