The season of depression with dull leaves and chilly winds is almost over. Soon, we will see vivid green hues, feel the warmth of the sun on our backs and smile at new flowers blooming. Spring cleaning is usually seen as swapping out clothes in our wardrobe or deep cleaning the kitchen, but have you ever heard of spring cleaning your mental space? The arrival of a new season can be a perfect time to introduce new habits, take some time to discover some new hobbies or even just have a reset day. So, in lieu of the new seasonal change, here are 5 ways I like to Spring clean, but self care edition!
Self Care Saturdays
The first Saturday of every month I make it a priority to do all the self care steps I desire. Fine details on what I choose to do may shift from month to month, but I typically follow this same routine. I take a long shower or bath, followed by my 10 step skincare routine which usually involves doing a chemical exfoliant mask (the Ordinary AHA 30% and BHA% is a really affordable and great option to use in proportion), I find a movie to watch and I relax with my favorite comfy clothes on while snacking on a yummy treat. This Saturday, I urge you to take the time to indulge in yourself!
Practice Journaling
I can not emphasize enough how much journaling has helped me throughout the years. Whether I feel anxious, need to rant, overthink, or simply want to reflect on a good day, there has never been a moment where I regretted taking out my journal and writing. And the awesome thing about it is you don’t have to do it for large amounts of time. Just write as you’re led to. Bonus points, writing is a skill that can always be improved upon, so journaling is not only self care and therapeutic, but it also serves as a way to brush up on your writing skills.
Social Media Cleanse
I’m sure this isn’t the first time you’ve heard someone talk about taking a social media cleanse, but it really is true that it helps. At the start of every season, I usually like to go through my social media and remove things that no longer serve me in a way I deem beneficial. Removing an account that disrupts your happiness, fixing your algorithm to see the content you want to see, or even cleansing your own social media to be a better reflection of who you are now, are all really small but important steps you can take this spring season!
Pick up a new hobby
What better way to start off a new season than to find a new hobby? Be it cooking, archery, reading, or just spending more time with friends…find something new to encapsulate yourself into.
Start your wellness journey
We see #fitnessgoals posted everywhere in the media, but let’s talk about starting your own healthy wellness journey. Whatever that looks like for you: walking for 30 minutes, lifting at the gym for 2 hours, or choosing better eating options.
Let’s spring clean: self care edition together this year! Until next time, stay uniquely you!
