This is the ultimate Christmas activity guide for all of my fellow holiday lovers! We will cover a wide range of activities that can be considered crafty, comfy + cozy and classic.

Crafty

We are never too old to do holiday crafts. Get out your crafting supplies and the glitter!

  • Decorate Christmas sweatshirts: You can use a plain sweatshirt in your closet, or you can purchase a plain sweatshirt. I would recommend using fabric paint, so the paint does not wash off or smear.
  • Decorate holiday totes: Before you convince yourself that you don’t need a Christmas tote bag, you certainly do. Make sure to use fabric paint or fabric markers with the tote bag too! Furthermore, I would slide some cardboard into the tote bag, so the tote keeps its shape more while you’re painting.
  • Repurpose holiday decorations: You can use your older holiday decorations, or you can go thrifting for some different pieces. Look for any candles, wreaths or trees. You can always add a flock to any of your wreaths or tree(s).
  • Make your own holiday cards: If you want to add a personal touch to all of your gifts this season, then make a handmade card. You don’t have to spend hours on one card, but make the card creative and personable.

Comfy and Cozy

Wear the outfit that will give you the most amount of comfort to partake in comfort-friendly activities!

  • Do a holiday movie marathon: If you aren’t sure which movies to pick, then you can always turn on the Hallmark channel or Freeform. If you know which movies you want, then sit back with a warm drink, a treat (or a few) and a blanket.
  • Make homemade hot chocolate: Put a little twist on this classic holiday drink! You can even make a little hot cocoa mix and give that out as a gift as well. Make sure that you add as many marshmallows as your little heart desires.
  • Read holiday-romance novels: These novels are very underrated; they are a Hallmark Christmas movie in book form! These novels will leave you with a feeling of content.
  • Bake holiday treats: You can bake treats from scratch, or you can buy the Pillsbury holiday doughs. Either way, let the oven warm up your home a little bit and let yourself enjoy a much-deserved treat!
  • Go see Christmas lights: If you live in a neighborhood or in a suburb, then you should drive around looking at all the houses that put up lights. You can blast the heat and Christmas music while enjoying all of the beautiful light displays.

Classics

These are the activities that are popular during this time of the year.

  • Decorate your house: Put up your Christmas tree and other decorations as well. Is there ever really too many Christmas decorations?
  • Spend some time outside: You can have a snowball fight, build a snowman, make snow angels or go ice skating. Make sure you enjoy the cool weather, but bundle up!
  • Decorate a gingerbread house: This is such a classic, but it’s, arguably, the best holiday activity. You can buy a gingerbread house from the store, or you can even try to construct your own.
  • Listen to Christmas music: Play the music as loud as your ears can handle!
Autumn Bunzell

Illinois '27

Hi there! My name is Autumn Rose, and I'm from Utica, Illinois. I live minutes away from Starved Rock State Park. I attended LaSalle-Peru Township High School which consists of only about 1,200 students. Within my family, I'm the youngest in a close-knit household, and I have an older sister who I absolutely adore. As well, I have a golden retriever and a grey tabby cat. Currently, I'm a first-year neuroscience student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Both the physical and psychological aspects of the human brain fascinate me. In addition, I'm interested in nutrition and how this field can be applied to neuroscience. There is a field labeled nutritional neuroscience that studies how the consumption of food, minerals, and supplements impacts an individual's cognition, mood, and overall brain health. Outside of the classroom, my hobbies vary tremendously. Music wise, I listen to Bryce Vine and Bazzi, but I also love Etta Mae, Arethra Franklin, and Frank Sinatra. As I do my morning routine, I listen to health and wellness podcasts on Spotify. In between classes, I do yoga and Pilates. At night, I love to do some skincare, and then crawl into bed with one of my books. Typically, I partake in crocheting and baking in the colder months. As a side note, my favorite season is fall because of the cool weather and all of the pumpkin/apple candles, foods, coffees, etc.
