Top 10 Reasons To Dress Up Every Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Ever wake up in the morning, hopelessly stare into your closet and think, “What’s the point?” We’ve all been there. Sometimes, it just seems easier to throw on that old, worn-out hoodie, and run out the door. But, most of the time, it’s worth it to retire your sweatpants, and exchange them for a more stylish and put-together outfit.

All too often, I get the question, “Why are you so dressed up?” And honestly, I often do not have an answer. Since when did it become unusual to put effort into what you wear and have fun with fashion? For me, it’s instinctual and a passion. If you are frequently faced with this question, or are wondering why one would dress up on a regular basis, I have come up with a list of the “Top 10 Reasons to Dress Up Every Day.”

So Why Dress Up?

1)   First, life is way too short to blend in. You should never settle for average in life, and fashion is a great place to start in reaching your full potential! One trend that will definitely have you turning heads is printed denim. Check out these stylish options, available at freepeople.com.

2)   Because you are only young once. College should be the best years of your life, and you can get away with wearing pretty much…anything! There are certain ensembles that are not acceptable later on in life; so, take advantage of your youth now.

3)   You never know whom you will run into. Still looking for that special someone? There’s a good chance you will meet them during your college years, and you don’t want your first encounter to involve a sloppy hoodie and sweats. With spring on its way in and the weather finally warming up, try a cute sundress such as these options by Modcloth

4)   Because parties are not the only time to celebrate. Each and every day holds potential opportunities and new experiences, for which you will want to look your best.

5)   You will never improve your sense of style if you take on a “I give up” attitude. Don’t be afraid to have fun with fashion! Everyone makes a few fashion mistakes along the way. The more you experiment, the easier it will become to pull together fashionable outfits on a daily basis. Even the oh-so-fashionable Sarah Jessica Parker has had a few fashion hiccups in her time.

6)   Fashion is one of the rare instances where art comes to life. However you choose to dress is a form of your own self-expression. Embrace fashion and showcase your personality through your wardrobe. Whether your style is edgy, and you prefer to shop at Urban Outfitters, or you prefer more preppy brands such as J. Crew, your day-to-day style can say a lot about you as a person.

7)   Because first impressions matter. When you walk into work or class, it’s important to dress appropriately and impress your professors and superiors.

8)   Dressing boldly can be a test of confidence, and also help you to gain confidence. Put yourself out there, take risks and make people notice your great style. Personally, I love adding bold accessories to my outfits for a unique touch. Check out chloe + isabel for statement jewelry that will surely set you apart from the crowd.

9) Ultimately, dressing well and allowing yourself a few more minutes of “me-time” each day will leave you feeling great. You deserve to look your best at all times. Reserve a few more minutes each morning to dress yourself up, regardless of the occasion!

10) Because you want to and you feel great. And, in the end, that’s what matters.
