Dance marathon has taught me a lot these past two years. It has taught me about doing things for people beyond myself. Our UIndy Dance Marathon raises money for Riley Hospital for Children. We stand on our feet for 8 hours in honor of the kids who canā€™t, while dancing, playing games, and hearing Riley stories. It is one big event, but our fundraising efforts and preparation spread throughout the year. Dance marathon is something I am very passionate about and I want others to become passionate about it too. 1. Dance marathon allows you to raise money for a worthy cause. In Indiana, this cause is usually for the kiddos at Riley Hospital for Children. A lot of times you actually will get to meet some of the kids you are raising money for.
2. Dance marathon can be considered philanthropy and volunteer work which looks great on your resume. Being involved in dance marathon can also give you a ton of service hours by volunteering at events that take place during the year.
3. You have so many opportunities to attain leadership. This year I was the Director of Merchandise for dance marathon at UIndy. I absolutely loved making cool merchandise and I had a committee that helped me with this.
4. Dance marathon is such a fun time and you get to spend it with friends which makes things even better. My two best friends in college are both involved with dance marathon and we love raising money and supporting the kids together.
5. The greatest feeling ever is seeing the numbers being held up at the end. It shows you that all your work really did pay off.
