10 Things to do over Fall Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.
  1. Show your Halloween Spirit:
With Halloween approaching, a perfect way to prepare would be to spend the day with friends, go shopping for costumes, and buy decorations for your room. To further get in the spirit, end the night at the movie theater watching the premiere of Paranormal Activity 3 (Oct. 21)!
  2. Explore The Outdoors:
Before it gets too cold outside, why not take advantage of your natural surroundings and go on an adventure! A hike, camping, or simply going for a walk are all great ways to enjoy the outdoors!
  3. Plan a girl’s day out: Every girl needs a day to drop all of her stress and enjoy herself! It’s always fun to put on your best outfits and enjoy a carefree lunch with your friends. Afterword, you can continue to indulge yourself by going to a local spa. Take a bunch of pictures as you get ready, and then go out to enjoy the night with your favorite girls!
  4. Take a Road Trip:
Try escaping from your crazy routine — take a mini-vacation! You can spend the day within a few hours of where you live, and explore a new surrounding. Find a new museum, mall, and take the day to tour!
  5. Take action: Spending the day volunteering is a fun way to really give back to your community. You can pick something that interests you and devote the day to helping a great cause.
  6. Take a break from your hectic life: Drawing and writing are great ways to sit back and enjoy the break without feeling unproductive. To help unleash your inner creativity, go ahead and blast your favorite songs for inspiration!
  7. Head to the gym:
Break can be a time to try different methods to help keep in shape! Try hitting up the gym, taking a fitness class, or even learning a new sport!
  8. Get Organized:
We all have hectic schedules, and it is extremely easy to become unorganized and fall behind. By taking a day to be productive and focus on any homework you may have due after break, you’ll be sure to stay on top of everything. You never know, you may become aware of available internships, study abroad options, and any other opportunities you would be interested in taking advantage of that are sometimes forgotten.
  9. Attend a concert: Let’s face it, concerts are a great way to enjoy yourself over break. Consider checking the local paper or websites like Ticketmaster.com and find out who will be in your town over fall break! Even if you may not be a huge fan or haven’t heard of the band coming, check it out anyways- you might end up liking them!
  10. Host a theme party: You’ve been working hard all semester! Throwing a theme party with your friends is a great way to celebrate all you have accomplished. You can have a simple and easy theme such as a white out party, or do something like a “Rubik’s Cube” party where you go dressed in random bright colors, and when you leave you have to leave in all of the same color.
