This year marks the 40th anniversary of the movie release of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! In this year’s performance at Ithaca College, sophomore English major Matthew Porter played the legendary role of Frank N. Furter.
Her Campus IC: What is something you wish to bring to the role in your performance?
Matthew Porter: “I just want to make it fun! I’ve wanted to play it for a while. Basically just have as much fun as I possibly can.”
HCIC: What did you costume consist of? Did you go all out?
MP: “The tattoo, fishnets, corset, platform heels. We went all out—these heels are killer.”
HCIC: Is there anything special you did to prepare for the role?
MP: “I played a transsexual alien in the Macabre Theatre’s original play Fried Bacon written by a senior last year, Sean Pollock, so I had some experience.”
HCIC: What other productions have you been in?
MP: “I did musicals in high school, but last year in addition to Fried Bacon, I was in Rent.”
HCIC: Is there anything you would like people to know about your role?
MP: “I think just to let them know that if there is something you want to do, just do it. Your opinion is the only thing you can control. I’m happy with me, and that’s all that matters.”
In the words of Frank N. Furter, Matthew insists, “Don’t dream it, be it.”
