This week’s “Song of the Week” is one that you’ve probably already heard and belted out with your friends: “Wrecking Ball,” by the one and only Miley Cyrus. After Miley shocked everyone during her VMA performance when she spanked giant teddy bears and made Robin Thicke… well… Thick, she shocks us yet again by coming out with possibly one of the best breakup songs ever made. Yes, you read that correctly. Cyrus may have just released a belt-out-in-your-car, heartbreak-inducing song that could throw Adele’s “Someone Like You” out the window. The lyrics are so powerful that each chorus makes you want to punch any guy that’s ever been mean to you, while the heart-wrenching chords force you to sing it even louder. Yet, the intensity in her voice during the verses insists that the pain is all too much. Is this real pain, or did she finally get her tongue caught on something because it no longer resides in her mouth? As for the music video, many say that “controversy” is the clear description. However, others can’t stand to see the artist unable to sing the lyrics because she is so broken. After seeing too much involving sledgehammers and a wrecking ball chain-wedgie, I must ask: Is the music video genius or total crap?
