The Mak Attack – Pink Tuesday: Will You Be In Attendance?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

As you probably have heard, the official Little 500 performers Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Barbie herself, Nicki FRICKIN Minaj sold out Assembly Hall in a matter of hours for their B-town stop on their “I’m Still Music” tour. And unless you are one vigilant collegiette™, chances are you didn’t get tickets.  Yeah, neither did I.

However, not to fret – you can still get your hands on one if you try.  Where there is a will, there is a way, my friend. Here is my advice for how to get your hands on the hottest ticket in all of Bloomington.

Often times in life, the most obvious solution is right under your nose, or right on your Facebook page. If you want something, sometimes the best way to get it is to simply ask for it. How do you know one of your (Facebook) friends isn’t dying to get rid of their ticket just as bad as you are dying to get one?  You don’t, unless you inquire.

Scour your newsfeed carefully for mentions of someone selling tix and make it clear in your own status that you are looking to acquire one for yourself. Don’t forget to include how much you are willing to spend to get one. Update your status frequently so it’s always fresh on the newsfeed, and don’t remove it until you get your hands on one. It also wouldn’t hurt to put your Twitter account to use for this purpose as well.

Now that we are on the topic, it should be addressed that you’re most likely not going to find one for cheap.  The tickets were originally sold to students at $44.75 and $99.75, but the prices on these things have inflated greatly since they sold out.

Unless you have a very good friend who will sell one to you at face value, you’re most likely going to pay the inflated price. A few kind souls are offering to sell their tickets at market price on the event’s Facebook page but most of the available tickets listed here are going for much higher rates.

If you don’t feel quite comfortable buying a ticket from a stranger on the event’s Facebook page and no one in any of your various social networks has a ticket for sale, there are a few more alternatives that offer a little more security with your purchase. You don’t even have to navigate off of Facebook (oh, modernity!) to use the Marketplace application for any ticket listings that might be in your price range. I checked it out just now and everything listed is pretty pricy, but keep checking for updates right up until the show starts. You never know.

A more affordable option is Stubhub. Last I checked, tickets were listed for as low as $74.89 a piece for three tickets in row 20 of Assembly Hall. Not bad, eh? But they probably won’t to be there forever, so if you are going to use StubHub to get your ticket don’t wait. You will surely miss out on any deals that the site has to offer if you hesitate.

The Bloomington Craig’s List page is crawling with promises of the “Cheapest Tickets Ever!” but as with the majority transactions on the site, the buyer must beware. That is not to say you won’t find an amazing deal on CL, but be cautious when making a purchase.

The same goes for the scalpers on the street that will be out in droves in the days and hours before the show to provide tickets to impulsive, last minute attendees. Again, be careful to avoid scams like faulty tickets, and be prepared to be overcharged if you buy in the hours before the show.

In my experience, the best way to buy from scalpers is to buy as the show is starting because they will be desperate to move their unsold tickets and more willing to make a deal.

If you do decide to buy tickets from Craig’s List or scalpers, trust your instincts.  If something seems too good to be true from a stranger, it probably is.

If you don’t get a ticket and you’re of legal age, the Official “I’m Still Music” After-Party feat. Lil Wayne and Friends at Jake’s Nightclub is an alternative you might consider.  The tickets are still available on Ticketmaster, at the venue, and around B-town. They are a little pricey ($50-$100 for VIP seating), but its being hyped as a very intimate experience with the Grammy winning music icon. There is no official word that our darling Nicki will be one of the “friends” listed on the bill, but chances are likely that she could be as she will be in town.   Even if she isn’t, a night with Weezy by himself can’t be bad.

All things considered, a lot of options still exist despite the sold out status of the show. If you are determined, your butt will be in a seat in Assembly Hall on the evening of April 12 – a.k.a Pink Tuesday.

Just ask yourself, what would Nicki do?
