10 Ways to Have a Great Valentine’s Day (Taken or Single!)

As February 14th soon approaches, you may find yourself trying to find something exciting to do this Valentine’s Day. Whether you plan on spending the day with your sweetheart, friends or even yourself, HerCampus has you covered. We’ve created a list of several things you can do to make it the best V-Day you’ve ever had! It doesn’t matter if you view the holiday as Singles’ Awareness Day or a day to celebrate love, you owe it to yourself to have a little fun and love the life you live this Valentine’s Day.

1.  Movie Marathon

Get together with some friends or your boyfriend and make a list of some of your favorite movies. With the girls think chick flicks like Sweet Home Alabama, How to Lose a Guy in 10 days, Moulin Rouge and The Notebook. And unless your guy would be fine with watching any of those, compromise for movies you’ll both like. For example, Mr. And Mrs. Smith has action and a romantic story line (not to mention eye candy) that you both can agree on.

2. Get Pampered

Show yourself some love this February 14th. Whether it’s getting a manicure or a massage, let yourself relax and take a little break from the stress. If you want to get your friends in on the action, get together and have a spa party: do each other’s nails, hair and makeup. You’ll have fun being with the girls all while getting a little pampered. You deserve it!

3. Bake Some Goodies

Satisfy your sweet tooth and make a dessert you’ve been craving. Pinterest has some really good and easy (not to mention delicious-looking) recipes that you can make with ingredients you may even all ready have. You can share your baked goods with friends or save them all for yourself!

4. Hand Out Valentines

We all remember how exciting it was to pass out and receive Valentines from our classmates when we were younger. Why not bring that tradition back and revive the childlike excitement that comes with getting a valentine? You can pull out the construction paper and glitter and make your own or buy them at Walmart or Dollar Tree for cheap! You’ll bring a smile to your friends’ faces and you’ll feel great about being able to make their day.

5. Do Something Adventurous

Some of the best memories in life are the ones that aren’t planned. Grab a friend or your boyfriend and do something you feel like doing in that very moment. Whether it’s checking out that restaurant you’ve had your eyes on, taking dance lessons or even karaoke. Whatever you plan on doing just have fun with it and embrace adventure and spontaneity!

6. Build a Love Fort

What’s a love fort you ask? It’s the coolest thing ever! First, you will need to build a fort. You know the drill: grab some sheets, soft blankets and pillows. Now add some string lights to make it extra special. Then invite someone you love to join you and maybe add some wine into the mix and there you have it- a love fort. Enjoy!

7. Write a Love Letter

Grab a pen and some fancy stationary and write a good old-fashioned, letter. You can express your love to your partner listing all the reasons you’re head over heels for them. Or maybe a parent or family member that you appreciate and  love dearly. You can even send one secret-admirer style to someone you have yet to express your feelings to. Spritz it with some perfume to make it extra special. 

8. Get Cozy

Not feeling up to going out with your guy or friends? Spend the night in the comfort of your home and make a little date with yourself. Have a candle-lit bath or snuggle up in a soft, comfy blanket and read a good book. Treat yourself to hot chocolate or tea as an added touch for a comfortable night in.

9. Plan A Really Memorable Date

Make this a Valentine’s Day to remember for you and your boyfriend or crush/guy –friend. You can plan an amazing date by doing anything from cooking a meal together to skiing/snowboarding. It’s all about planning a date that you will both will love and make lasting memories.

10. Take a Walk Down Memory Lane

Go on a tour with the love of your life that will take you back in time. Visit the spots you first met, kissed or even had your first date. It’s a great way to think about all the memories and where your love began. It’ll bring you closer after you talk about those first moments and how it all began.
