It’s happening. Store windows are filling with pink and red hearts, mushy, gushy movies are being previewed, and the big question is being asked. Will you be my valentine? No matter if you accept a special someone’s valentine request, or choose to spend the day with your girls, Valentine’s Day is a great time to let your inner hopeless romantic shine through.
Let’s get ourselves in a “love is everlasting” state of mind with a few Valentine’s Day movie favorites!
Valentine’s Day
While it’s true that this movie suffers from star overload, you can’t ignore a movie devoted to the Day of Love this close to the holiday. Valentine’s Day follows the lives of several characters, played by big names like Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Swift, and Anne Hathaway, as they sort out their romantic feelings for one another on the big day. The film may not warrant five stars, but it is a light-hearted, feel good film that will definitely get you geared up for love.
Pretty Woman
Richard Gere shows us what it means to love someone for who they are, not what they do, in this classic love story. Based on the famous opera La Traviata this film tells the tale of an upper-class gentleman falling for a prostitute who he has hired for a week. As you might guess, he falls for her almost as hard as she falls for him. But can she accept that he truly loves her? Watch it on Valentine’s Day to find out!
Titanic
A story of unrequited love, teenage rebellion, and historic disaster, Titanic is both moving and humorous. Leonardo DiCaprio stars in this film as a poor boy who wins a ticket to the Titanic in a poker game. While on board, he meets Rose, a well-to-do (and engaged) young woman for whom he immediately falls. Rose is smitten by his light-hearted approach to life and his artistic abilities. But when disaster strikes, will their love be able to save them? This tear jerker will definitely make you hold your Valentine close.
The Wedding Singer
No matter the day of the year, you can’t go wrong with Adam Sandler. This Valentine’s Day, watch him fall for Drew Barrymore as he plays the role of, you guessed it, a wedding singer. Your man won’t complain about watching this hilarious romantic comedy and it’s not too mushy to make the single girls feel left out of the V Day spirit.
The Notebook
Hands down, the most lovey, dovey, gushy, Valentine’s-y movie ever made. I dare you to make it through this movie without crying at least five times. Have the emergency, heart-shaped chocolate close at hand as you watch Noah and Allie fall hard during their summer fling. Crushed when Allie must return to the city for school, they both go their separate ways. Only after Allie becomes engaged do they meet again, this time falling harder than the first. This Valentine’s Day simply won’t be complete without a shitless Ryan Gosling and a heart-wrenchingly good romance.
So make some popcorn, grab a box of tissues and curl up on the couch and enjoy these Valentine’s Day favorites!
