In college, drinking is fun, but drinking and feeling like crap the next day is not. If you want to have a good night, but feel great the next morning–make sure to follow these tips so that you can avoid that stomach turning, and headache pounding feeling the next day.

1. Set Limits

Setting limits for yourself is the number one way to ensure you are not hungover the next day. Nothing is worse than waking up the next morning with a pounding headache, wondering what you did the night before, so make sure to control yourself and know your limits. Fill up a water bottle of alcohol to take with you for the night instead of bringing the entire handle. Maybe consider drinking mixed drinks or beers instead of taking shots all night, and when people offer you drinks, make sure you know what it is before consumption. Because if you blackout, it is almost inevitable that you will be hungover.

2. Don’t Drink on an Empty Stomach

We’ve heard it all before, but it’s easy to forget. Sometimes it slips your mind and you get straight to boozing without eating, but always make sure to eat before you drink! If you didn’t have time for dinner, then make sure to eat something when you’re craving those late night munchies. Try carrying snacks in your purse, or head to Sheetz on the way home for some Mac and Cheese bites. From crackers to a Big Mac, having some sort of food in your stomach before consuming alcohol is always necessary.

3. Chase with Gatorade

If you plan on taking shots for the night, try chasing with this fruity drink that will also rehydrate you with electrolytes. Sometimes there’s even a 2 for 4 sale on Gatorades, so it might be a good idea to have one at night, and one in the morning.

4. Drink a Bottle of Water Before Bed

Drinking water before bed is so important! It refreshes, refuels, and replenishes you. This trick is sure to eliminate any hangover, or headache the next day. Try keeping a bottle on your nightstand for when you stumble in for the night.

5. Don’t Lie Around the Next Day

Believe it or not, lying in bed all day in a dark room will only worsen your hangover. As soon as you start to feel the damages from the night before, get up and get out! Being an active member in society and breathing fresh air really is the cure to defeating a hangover.
