5 Ways to Celebrate Spooky Season This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

All my fellow Halloween lovers gather around, it’s finally the best month of the year! October has arrived and I am ready to greet it with open skeleton arms. Now that the clock has struck twelve on October 1st, it is socially acceptable to celebrate the spooky season as much as you want, and you should! If you’re struggling to come up with ways to enjoy this fall season, I’ve come up with five ways to celebrate this spooky season.

Hayride

A super simple way to start off this spectacular spooky season is to go on a hayride! Most pumpkin patches and farms have cute hayrides for a low price this time of year. I like hayrides because you can just sit back, relax, and breathe in the crisp fall air. Plus, you can take cute Insta picks with your group of girlies!

pumpkin patch/carving pumpkins

Going to a pumpkin patch is probably my favorite Halloween activity! I make sure I do this every single year. I just love seeing all the orange pumpkins fill the grass just waiting to be picked. This is my favorite activity because not only do I get to dress up in a cute fall outfit and take a pumpkin home, but pumpkin patches usually have delicious apple cider and scrumptious kettle corn. Can you even think of a better way to celebrate the spooky season? I think not!

haunted house

This may be one of the most cliché Halloween things you can do. Everyone thinks of a haunted house when you say “Halloween”. Even though it is one of my least favorites because I am a scaredy-cat, I highly recommend it. Going to a haunted house just makes the season that much spookier! So, grab a group of friends this fall and get haunting!

watch Halloween movies

One of my favorite ways to really get into the feeling of Halloween is to watch as many Halloween movies as possible. They could be a family-friendly movie or a classic scary movie! I suggest making a list of as many movies you can think of that you’d like to watch and then see how much damage you can do in one month! It’s also a super fun idea to have a movie marathon with friends complete with snacks, drinks, and maybe even costumes.

dress up

My last tip to really get the most out of this Halloween season is to dress up! And I don’t just mean dressing up on Halloween. In the words of Tim Burton, “Every day is Halloween, isn’t it?”. Add a little spooky spice to your everyday look if you can. I personally love to rock a sweet pair of jack o’ lantern socks.

So, there you have it: five ways to celebrate this spooky season! Don’t let this monstrously beautiful month pass you by and join me and all the other ghosts and ghouls as we enjoy the best season of the year.  Grab your apple cider, your kettle corn, and your costume and get your spook on!
