This book broke my heart. Â But like, in a good way. Â
This book has easily become one of my favorite reads and when I tell you I couldn’t put it down, I mean it.  I planned to read a couple of chapters before going to bed and I ended up reading until I physically couldn’t stay awake any longer.  I had stayed up until 4 am and I didn’t even regret it because this book is just THAT good.  I was about halfway through and I already knew the book would be a rollercoaster ride of emotions.  The book is told from the point of view of a young girl with a life of privilege and we get to know her very well, along with her family.
The descriptions of the characters made them really easy to picture in my head (which is something I normally struggle with).  The author, E. Lockhart, gave so much depth to each character it was like I had actually met them in real life.  Most of the characters are pretty likable and the ones that aren’t play a big role in the ending of the book so getting to know their stories was enjoyable.  There was clearly so much thought put into each character that it really added to the entire experience for the reader. Â
This book has a little bit of everything, a summer love, a wealthy family driven by greed, tragedy, mental illness, and a girl who is just trying to figure herself out.  I finished the book in two days because each page left me wanting to know what happened next.  Not once did I get bored or want to skip ahead because every single detail seemed extremely important.  There are a lot of flashbacks throughout the book, but they are really easy to follow (unlike in some other books I’ve read).  The ending had me staring at the wall with tears running down my face, but that’s how you know it was an amazing read (in my opinion).  I felt just about every emotion on my journey with these characters.
I actually saw this book recommended on TikTok and bought it on Amazon the same day and I am SO glad I did. Â I would recommend this book to anyone who loves books with twist endings and a lot of depth. Â I was pleasantly surprised by “We Were Liars” and it’s definitely one of my new favorites.
