It’s hard to believe my time at IUP is really coming to a close. The feeling of graduation approaching is becoming overwhelmingly bittersweet. On one hand, I am excited to step into the crazy real world and hopefully land a “big girl” job in the Public Relations field (hopefully in Denver! *crosses fingers*). Yet, on the other hand I am sad to be leaving behind this world of freedom.
I’m also not looking forward to leaving behind the friends I have gained at this school. I have met some of the most amazing people during my time on this campus. People that have forever changed my life: whether they know it or not. I know it’s inevitable that over the years I will lose contact with some of the friends I’ve made in my college career, but there are many who I will remain close to for the rest of my life.
My life as an undergrad has been filled with so many wonderful opportunities as well. Being a feature writer for Her Campus IUP is one of the activities I am actually most proud of. I love being able to write articles directed towards women who are in my situation, but are from all different walks of life. I love that HC IUP gave the women at this school a voice, and being part of that from the beginning has truly been an honor.
I was also the Social Chairperson for IUP’s branch of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Being able to gain practice in my potential field has also been quite an enjoyable experience for me. The organizations I was a part of on this campus have done a great job preparing me for my Postgrad life. I hope that one day I will make my stamp on this world. J
I think that sometimes, as students, we don’t realize the fact that our undergraduate years have the potential to be the best four (or five) years of our lives. I would urge everyone to seize as many opportunities as possible. A huge part of college is networking! Socializing, joining organizations, being outgoing; these things are just as important as going to class. Don’t miss out on having fun during your undergrad years because you’re so caught up in being a perfect student. Learn time management! No one is going to do things for you; you need to worry about doing things for yourself.
