How to be a CoverGirl without Makeup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

Easy, breezy, beautiful: CoverGirl

When we hear this slogan, our minds immediately jump to mascara, blush, lipstick, and other such make-up.  After all, CoverGirl is a producer of makeup. But did you ever take a moment to look at the girls underneath the makeup?  One of the reasons CoverGirl is so well-respected is because of their gorgeous, successful, and admirable spokeswomen.  Ellen Degeneres, Queen Latifah, and P!nk are just a few examples of the beautiful faces of CoverGirl campaigns.  These ladies have been chosen to represent this well-known brand for more than their pretty faces, they are CoverGirls even when they aren’t wearing the makeup.

Here are some ways that you can be a CoverGirl too- without the makeup!

1. Give Back!
Volunteering is one of the best ways to feel good about yourself and your community!  Give back to those around you in any way you can!  IUP recently hosted a Community Service Fair that advertised Indiana organizations and businesses looking for some help.  Rewarding ways to volunteer include: tutoring IUP or high school students, visiting the local animal shelter, joining a service club or fraternity, or becoming involved in local religious organizations.  So, get out there and do some good for someone else, I promise it will make you feel great too!

2. Be Positive!
One of the best things about CoverGirl ads is the positive expressions on the faces of their models.  No matter how “vogue” a scowl may be, CoverGirl sticks to the classic, genuine smile.  Along with smiling often, try to approach every situation with a can-do attitude.  Chances are, your positive aura will influence those around you, brightening their day, as well as yours!

3. Use Your Manners!
Most of us say our “pleases” and “thank yous” on special occasions, like when Grandma visits, but how many of us use these simple pleasantries on a daily basis?  Even with your BFF, manners can go a long way.  Hold that door for the person behind you, even if they are kind of far away and aren’t carrying something.  Who knows, going out of your way to be polite might brighten someone’s day when they really need it.

Being a CoverGirl isn’t just looking great in make-up, it’s having a positive outlook on life and doing what you can to help out others and make them feel good about themselves.  In striving to live the life of a CoverGirl, your inner beauty will outshine your outer beauty!
