Every girl can attest to a pregnancy scare at least once in their lives. But what happens when that becomes a reality, and you aren’t ready for that chapter in your life? I’m here to give a stepping stool for a nerve-wracking experience that will help you pursue your abortion.

First and foremost, I would like to point out the obvious; I am not a doctor. In no way can I give medical advice regarding this operation, so I will be focusing on the plans you can control outside of the actual procedure itself.

Find a Friend

For many girls, this experience can be perilous, and you can feel lonely and scared about the decision you have made. I would recommend reaching out to the people you trust the most, and who will have an open mind to support you. The subject of reproductive rights is greatly debated, so you’ll want to find an understanding shoulder to lean on.

Find A Clinic

Finding an abortion clinic near you is the most important part of the process. HERE you can search for clinics near you by entering your city or zip code.

Know your rights

Your rights to this procedure will differ in every state. Because Roe v. Wade was overturned, there have been a few Pennsylvania changes in law. Here are the most notable laws:

  • There is nearly no coverage for abortions.
  • Abortion is outlawed after 24 weeks of gestation.
  • Minors need judicial or parental consent.
  • Counseling is mandatory and needs to happen 24 hours before the procedure. During counseling, there is information designed to discourage you from this procedure.

These facts can seem discouraging. Unfortunately for Pennsylvanian residents, there is just not much medical or governmental support. However, the option of your right to this procedure is still protected.

Have a Post-Procedure Plan

It is a good idea to plan out the next few days during and after your procedure. Chances are, you may need to travel for your clinic. Try to find any hotels in the area. If you are staying overnight and feeling up to it, it could help you explore the city you are in and find something fun! Your response to this procedure may differ for everyone, and sometimes it can be helpful to find ways to take your mind off of things.

Indulge In self-care

Regardless of the series of events during your procedure, it is extremely important to rest rest rest! Your body will have undergone a heavy amount of stress, and it is imperative you prioritize yourself. It is recommended to take painkillers and use a heating pad for any discomfort. Mentally, it could be a good idea to reach out to a therapist or your doctor if you are feeling some intense emotions. As always, stay hydrated.

Overall, make sure to focus on YOU. This is YOUR decision, YOUR procedure.  Don’t let anyone who is not a medical professional try to sway any opinions you may have. Make sure to decide with your own interests and opinions in mind. I hope this guide aided you in any form! Whether that be actively considering your options, or even learning new facts. All in all, be safe.
