Spring 2017 IUP Fashion Shows

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

It is that time again for the FSMR 158 Fashion Show Production class to put on their annual spring fashion shows for the IUP community. This semester is bigger than average and there are four shows instead of the usual two. This is something that if you are interested in fashion or just want to support your fellow students in their shows,  you should check out. They are very affordable to attend on a college kid budget and something to enjoy during your college experience. If you are a fashion merchandising major in one of Dr. Hwang’s classes, you are able to get extra credit by going to the fashion show and writing your name on your fashion show evaluation form for the certain class you want it to go to.

New York to Paris:

Tonight, there was the New York to Paris fashion show held in McVitty Auditorium in Sprowls Hall. It started at 7pm and was held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. There was free admission and there were four raffle baskets that consisted on gift cards, a spa basket, Bath and Body Works basket, and a movie basket. The winners were very enthuasitic. The clothing came from the Trendy Trades store. Any donations and raffle proceeds will be given to Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society. The models walked through the center and the stage was decorated according to the theme. It was Dawn to Dusk for both cities and the models were dressed accordingly. There was an ending flood and all of the group members came out to take their well-deserved bows.

Culture Classics:

On Wednesday May 3rd, the Culture Classics fashion show will take place in the Sutton Blue Room. The show asks the question “Can Art Be Fashion?’ and it has a minimum donation of 1 dollar for their philanthropy. Their philanthropy is the juvenile diabetes research foundation or JDRF for short. The show starts at 7pm and the doors open at 6:30pm.

Street Chic:

The Street Chic Fashion show is going to take place on May 4th at 7pm in the Sutton Blue room. There is no donation for entry.

Concrete Jungle:

The concrete jungle fashion show is taking place on May 5th in the Sutton hall blue room. The tickets are well done and are one dollar for entry. They will be selling tickets April 26th- April 28th and will be sold in the Hub Student Union. All proceeds will benefit the Indiana County Humane Society. Refreshments will be provided and the show starts at 7pm.

All of the shows are very diverse in nature and original in theme. These students have worked very hard on the shows and have been working since day one of their class.

If you enjoy putting on these kinds of events, you should join the IUP Fashion Association or the IUP Visual Merchandising club. These are wonderful student organizations to join to build your resume, have a rewarding experience, meet new friends, and have a ton of fun!!
