Tonight is SUPB’s 50s dance! Are you a Bad Sandy or a Classic Beauty? Either way we got you covered:
The Makeup
The 1950s were a time for flawless skin and dramatic features. Start by moisturizing your face, and then add whatever concealer you might need to cover up any spots or redness. Then add your foundation.
For your eyes, browns, golds, and greys were all very popular. I used Amber Lights by MAC, which is a shimmery goldish brown color. Apply the color all over your lid and into your crease. Then with a new clean brush, blend that color out so the effect is very smoky and pretty. Then add a highlight color, like a silver or a cream, to the inside corner of your eye as well as underneath your brow.
For your lips, pinks, fuchsias, and reds were all popular. I liked Urban Decay in Sheer Anarchy or F-Bomb. I would stick to lipstick rather than a gloss because you’ll get a more classic finish. To get a more fuller lip, you can outline your lips with a pencil first.
To finish, you can add a bit of blush, but both blusher and bronzer weren’t very popular in the 1950s. Then fill in your eyebrows by adding a dramatic arch to the middle part.
The Hair
Curls and waves were huge in the 1950s. If you have them, hair rollers (with heat or without) are great, but you can get the same effect with a wand. You are gonna want big, tight curls, so wider wands are better. I curled all of my hair with a wand, then hair sprayed it just a little bit to set them. Then I brushed through my hair with a round brush to get more of a wave effect. After I got the type of wave I wanted, I set it with more hair spray.
From here, you have tons of options. You can use bobby-pins to pull part or all of your hair back. You can pull your hair back into a pony and add a couple of more curls once it’s back to create a really sweet look. To add some volume, you can pin your bangs back into a pompadour.
Then add a neck scarf or some pearls and you are are ready to Jive and Cha-cha the whole night away!
